Rumor: Gizmodo says iPhone coming Monday
Do the kids at Gizmodo know something our brothers and sisters at Engadget don't? Brian Lam says:
"Gizmodo Knows: iPhone Will Be Announced On Monday. I guarantee it. It isn't what I expected at all. And I've already said too much."
Read into that what you will. First thing I notice is the lack of the word "Apple," other than in the tags. Sure, an iPhone could be coming Monday - but is it the iPhone. The only true iPhone is one from Apple. You must forsake all others.
Or maybe they've actually got the goods this time? Tune in Monday to find out and discuss amongst yourselves in the interim.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

I've got $2 riding on this being true already. Still, I see it as unlikely. The timing seems weird, Apple hasn't scheduled anything, and it is a Monday. Still, Brian seems pretty confident. Maybe it will be some lame VoIP software and a wireless phone to gow with it. Maybe an iPod add-on (we did see iphone in the ipod firmware a while back). I'm intrigued. Bring it on.

As far as I can remember, Apple has never announced _anything_ on a Monday. Tuesday is generally the day of new product announcements. If this one's true, OJ is innocent.

Yeah. Of course it's going to be released. I just bought an iPod on Wednesday, and usually when I buy something, a week later, something new and better comes out. But I seriously doubt this is going to happen.

#4: Actually one of the Core 2 Duo upgrades to either the iMac, MacBook Pro, or MacBook was on a Monday this year.

The iPhone rumor-O-the-week should be tagged as iPhoney from here on out.

It says 'Announced', the iTV and 2G ipod shuffle were announced ahead of time...but both at an 'event'. The way Apple release new products is not the same as it used to be.
Tricky. There is the stock price thing to consider i guess, if they DONT release/announce something - and it doesnt eventuate at MacWorld what will happen to the stock price? It could be a pre-emptive strike to fuel the fire of speculation and to keep the stock price bubbling until macworld....
or...as derek said above, Gizmodo is full of crap.

Apple has introduced at least one product on a Monday. My powerbook model was introduced January 31, 2005. It was a Monday, everyone was surprised by the timing, but it did happen.

Like some others, I just can't see a full-blown product announcement on a Monday with no event scheduled. I could see some sort of iPod addon, but not much else. Brian's comment about "...thinking outside of the box" makes me wonder if it's something even more of a stretch, such as a headset for iChat or something of that nature.

Apple is never going to launch a new product like iphone with no event happening.
You believe that if apple is going to introduce a product like that, it is going to just show off one day on the website.
The iphone isn't like an upgrade (macbook switch to Core 2 duo), it's a new product that everybody is waiting. Apple has to at least call all the reporters to "show off" the product (and to my knowledge no such invitation has been sent to anyone).

Maybe the "soft launch" is due to it not being as good as we all hope it's going to be?

iPods have been launched in newsweek - anythings possible.
Maybe its an iPhone shuffle - no screen, or keypad but will call your friends at random or in order as added from the addressbook -only 200 slots for contacts but you can create a call list in itunes 8 and sync only those

What's missing in all these rumours (and so far, only CrunchGear has picked up on it) is any mention of FCC clearance.
Until Engadget Mobile posts such a notice, I'm going to take these rumours with a large shaker of salt. Apple would be mad to put out info on a non-FCC approved product.

Good grief - there is even a dedicated iPhone rumor website out in the interwebs. Now I know we have all gone crazy.

This is a very exciting product for Apple, and the iPhone wont be released without a Keynote by Steve Jobs. If it's comming anytitne soon, it will be at MacWorld.
