FreeRideCoding releases SmartBackup

From the faraway land of Austria and the people who brought you BurnAgain (which earned rave reviews from David Chartier) comes SmartBackup, a 2.0 reworking of the company's original SyncupX backup tool. The new version of the app is intended for simple and easy backups, but it has a few pro-level features too: it leverages Spotlight's Saved Searches as a selection mechanism for backing up, handles archiving of changed items, integrates with Automator and iCal, and you can run it from the command line for remote triggering or scripted backups.
I like the look and feel of SmartBackup, and the saved searches are a nice way of handling dynamic selections (e.g. "Back up all the JPEGs that were modified in the last week") for repeat jobs. It doesn't have the granular power of ChronoSync or the bootable mule-team-borax strength of SuperDuper, but if you are considering Apple Backup or Martian Lifeboat you may want to throw SmartBackup into the mix of possibilities. $19.50 for a single-user license.

You can also get the real Lifeboat app from Mojave Shade with a 20% MacSanta discount. More flexible than Martian LifeBoat (when are they going to change that name so people stop getting confused?).

Pretty off-topic, but I have to note that I find it very entertaining that you feel the need to link the wiki page of Austria (I live in Vienna, Austria) ;)

I'll stick with the free iBackup. It is free and works great.

Damn... Just as I wrote earlier, it seems the usual American just doesn't know that "outside the USA" means.
A link to the Wikipedia, so everyone knows where my homeland is located?
I mean, WTF?! It's Austria, not Zimbabwe or Honolulu!
A real shame...

Austria is not faraway to me. You do know the internet is international, right? As in you're not writing for a one nation audience?

My apologies to anyone who was troubled by "faraway Austria" and the Wikipedia link. It was not my intention to be disrespectful, I wanted to point out to (largely American, English-speaking) TUAW readers that
a) there's a big world out there;
b) lots of spectacular Mac development is taking place all over the world, and we should not assume that the next great Mac app will come from California or Texas rather than Brisbane, Vienna, Seoul or Santiago.
My next software post for a US development house will have a link to Wikipedia too. :-)

"From the faraway land of Austria..."
That really depends on where you are. For me, the USA does seem to be faraway as well...
