Flapper - the animated, life-or-death weather widget

Is Apple's default weather widget not offering enough excitement? Are you looking for a little more cutesy, life-or death-drama with your ambiguous weather reports? Then check out Flappie, the widget that needs you to both feed and play with it (while also allowing it to sleep) from time to time in order for it to continue displaying generic (read: no actual temperature readings) weather reports. But be careful - if you don't care for Flappie on a daily basis, it could most certainly die. On the other hand, the longer you can keep your little Flappie alive, the better a chance it has "to evolve." Into what exactly is the answer Timothy Breslin, the widget's author, is apparently keeping to himself.

Has anyone seen this darn thing "evolve?" I'm getting a little bored of him.

Re: if Flappy gets sick: I don't think it bothers him. It's kind of how I know the little guy is ready for bed. If he gets sick, I "cure" him, then hit the "happy" button three times and the "food" button twice. He's set then for 12 hours or so. I usually put him to sleep at night as well, and he's fine in the morning.

Does Flappie suffer if you feed him too much? I tend to hover. If I am careless, he gets sick (once a day or so.) I "cure" him of course with the discipline button - but I wonder if overfeeding (or overplaying) retards his evolution.

Yeah, what's this surprise we keep reading about? Isn't flappie supposed to evolve into something? Keep us all posted if yours evolves or changes.

The time change has altered the sounds in my Flappie's world as well... I actually heard the rooster crow at around 8:10 this morning. And, I was hoping maybe my flappie aging to double digits might bring about an evolution, but I'm at 10 now, and no change. Plus, I live in LA, so the warm weather is supposedly a benefit, according to what I've read. We'll see though...

So, I have the new version of Flappy. It took me a while to figure whats going on. Basically you have to feed him about twice a day, if you feed him to much he gets sick and you use the discipline to get him back to normal.
If your wondering, there is a wolf that howls, its not your imagination. I guess he is some part of flappies world. The number in the heart is how long flappy has been alive. It is based on a 24 hour day for flappy, if your computer is off, it stops counting time.
So when do you feed flappy, if you look at the heart, not the number you should see a slight beat, when the beat slows down to less than a beat per second you should feed him, if its that low you can usually feed him twice without getting him sick
If your tired of feeding him, put him to sleep and he will conserve his energy.
As for evolving, I havnt got the foggiest. Also the new version seems to do fine with the weather and day and night

Well, my little Flappie is up to 7. I usually don't pay much attention to when he howls, so not sure if when the original Daylight Savings (April 1) rolls around it will make a difference. I'll have to track it.

I do, however, think I have an answer for the person with the Flappie quadruplets. If I open my widgets file, I can keep clicking on the Flappie icon and a new one shows up. It is the same age as the original, but I can make one cry while the other one laughs. I had a half a dozen pretty quickly. Not wanting to have more than one mouth to feed, I clicked on the X (when widgets are open) and they disappeared. I felt kind of cruel for a moment, but then remembered they're only zeros and ones.

It is a cute little creature, I must say.

Ever since the Daylight saving time change happened my Flapper is confused when dusk and dawn are.

Before the time change Flapper was already turned to daytime when I woke him up at 6:50 am so I always missed him crowing at dawn, then at dusk he would howl and turn nighttime at approximately 6:50pm.

Now with the time change dusk and dawn is much later in Flapper's world. Last night he thought dusk was 8:15 pm as that is when he howled (it was pitch black outside at that time) and this morning he crowed at 8:30 am and turned to daylight. At 8:30 am the sun has already been up for a long time.

Even by the old time if we didn't change our clocks this still makes him out of wack.

I remember the old Flapper before this new upgrade mine always was confused on extremely long days or nights and then the upgrade he was bang on perfect but now since the time change he's confused again about when dusk and dawn is.

I hope he'll adjust back to normal maybe when the original time change really was supposed to happen in a couple of weeks? Anyone else find their Flapper confused about daytime/night time being a little later since the time change?
