Sign up to be notified for the iPhone release
If you don't mind throwing your e-mail address into a "please notify me form", Cingular has a new page that allows you to request notification when the iPhone becomes available. Of course, you can probably just read about the iPhone availability here at TUAW, but don't discount the thrill of opening your email and discovering a note directly from Cingular. Which will, of course, prompt you to pop over to TUAW to see what the scoop is all about, right? Right.

Come again? Cingular only? Sorry, we don't have that company here in Scandinavia. And what's up with no 3G/UMTS? Ok, perhaps not the coolest of technologies, but that's where we're at now. So, when are Europeans and/or Scandinavians going to get access to this little one? No, we don't have enough with Nokia and Sony/Ericsson. :-)

why wont the cool features be available outside the US?
And if someone can clear this for me, the prices shown (499-599) are with a 2 year contract with cingular or not? It's kinda confusing since apple will also be selling this sexy thing on their stores...

I will be very disappointed if the iPhone is not available overseas. A 2 year exclusive contract with Cingular could be construed to be the exclusive contract in the US, leaving them open to sell it freely outside of the USA (Apple likes having options), but which other international carriers would they have had time to negotiate with to offer services like visual voicemail?? I expect to either be disappointed or to be waiting another year at least before this is available overseas.

MacWorld claimed June 2007 for the iPhone. We will need a big bucket to catch the drooling that will occur between now and the launch...

I bet. Here in the U.S. we have not been getting the cool phones that are available in Europeland and Asialand, so we know how you feel!

What about Canada, eh?
We're finally going to get cell phone number portability on March 12, 2007 and my 3-year contract with Bell Mobility ends in November 2007. Rogers, Fido and Telus are all GSM, so which one is going to step up and get the phone to Canadians?
If one of the provides offers the Apple Phone, I'll switch in a hearbeat (and I'll be willing to sign a 2 or 3-year contract).

Maybe im crazy, but i think the genious of the visual voicemail is that the phone picks up and records the callers message to its own internam flash memmory. You can then see that you have voicemail and listen to it locally. I dont think this is a service that needs to be supported by the carrier. I think my explanation makes a lot more sence.

@ HyperCollider
What about when the phone is off? That's not how it works.
