Ticketmaster, iTunes promo
Ticketmaster announced a partnership with the iTunes Store today which will allow their customers to receive a free song from iTunes, starting this summer. A "music sampler" of the artist they're going to see will also be made available. In addition, iTunes customers who pre-order certain albums will be able to buy concert tickets before the general public. You may remember that Apple tried this last year, and it didn't to very well. According to Sean Moriarty, president and CEO of Ticketmaster, that won't be the case this year:
"By providing direct links to iTunes, the world's most popular online music and video store, we're giving iTunes and Ticketmaster customers the opportunity to buy concert tickets, and explore and purchase great music..."
Also, look for iTunes + Ticketmaster gift cards this summer, which will be redeemable with Ticketmaster and iTunes. They'll cost $50US.

You can pre-order music on iTunes? Seems like a weird concept to me--it's delivered instantly anyway. I guess the music oligopoly wants their guaranteed pre-sales in the digital age, even if they are pointless.

With all the pre-orders I've done so far, it doesn't even charge your credit card until the download. And you still have to follow a link to commence the download.
Not quite sure what the benefit of pre-ordering is on iTunes. It's not like they're going to run out of songs....

"Ticketmaser" [sic] ? Sounds like the music industry's high-tech weapon.

From time to time when you preorder, you get a special song only with that, or artwork, or video or something. For instance, when I bought the last Disturbed album, I got a song you only get with pre-order and a special Tod McFarlane drawing. There aren't always perks by any means, however there are from time to time.

This is a terrible cross-promotion. Ticketmaster is one of the worst offenders in the music industry with their outrageous surcharges for their minimum efforts.
I will not be supporting this. I hope others feel and act the same.

iTunes Pre-sales usually include bonus tracks, videos, etc. that aren't available afterwards.

Why don't they run a promotion where you buy tickets on iTunes, go to the concert, and be able to download music from the show once you get home? That would be very popular.

iTunes / Ticketmaster ticket pre-sales are awesome!
Thanks to them, I got front row tickets to see Bob Dylan at Key Arena!
