Microsoft recommends GarageBand for advanced audio editing

It's rare that a rival in the marketplace tosses anything but a canned compliment your way, so it's always refreshing to highlight such a kind gesture. In what is likely a mixup at Redmond or simply the work of a covert Apple guy behind enemy lines, a Microsoft product page about having more fun at home recommends GarageBand for advanced audio editing (scroll to the bottom). Of course, the entry also cites iLife '05, but they even work in a plug for the ever-useful Jam Packs as well.
Now, who wants to place bets as to how soon Apple will recommend Microsoft Expression for 'advanced' web design?
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

That's sweet from M$ but as a professional, GarageBand (enhanced with Jam Packs) is ONE of all the softwares that I use for production. As other, it allow me to make things that I can't do with others but I wouldn't use it only to finalize a whole project.

Truth be told, Expression is rather nice. It's the closest thing PC geeks are going to get to TextMate without having a Mac. Apple doesn't really produce any competing product.

How strange. And also a little odd that GarageBand is placed in the 'Advanced' category alongside Cubase. I'm a fan of GarageBand - you can do quite a lot with it, even running on a G3 iBook you can use most of the s/w instruments as long as you limit the number of tracks and effects. But it's very limited compared to Cubase or Logic. It would seem a natural for the 'Intermediate' category.

That doesn't make any sense, it reads like you can use it on your PC. What gives?

I understand the irony but Apple recommends the use of Microsoft Office.
Not that big of a deal.

Is it me, or did they remove it from the page?

Looks like it's been rewritten to remove garageband. Oh well fun while it lasted.

That's a bizarre idea, that GarageBand is really suited for "advanced audio editing." No serious sound engineer I've ever talked to would consider GarageBand's capabilities to be "advanced." And what's weirder is that some of the best - and most used - audio editing software around is only available for Windows. There was a discussion on the sound_design Yahoo! Group about this very topic just a couple weeks ago.

I would hardly call Garageband advanced. For real editing Pro Tools or Nuendo is the way to go.

Yeah, im not a pro engineer or producer but if you asked me to name the pro level apps i would think were in the soundy's tool kit... garage band would nt be one of them. Probably wouldnt be anywhere on my list if let me extend the rankings either... Hardly seems industry standard.

Wow! GarageBand has indeed gone. While they were editing it, you'd have thought they might have noted that Cubase SX 3.0 isn't available anymore. The latest version is Cubase 4, with an stripped down entry edition of the older version (Cubase SE) available for those with a tighter budget. The article is dated October 2005. C'mon Microsoft. Is making music on your PC so little valued by you guys, that you can't get just a little more up to date than this.

For those who missed it:
Advanced:GarageBand (U.S.$79)
Part of iLife '05, a suite of integrated applications (including iMovie and iDVD), GarageBand is a popular program that turns a Mac computer into a professional-quality recording studio for musicians.
The intuitive interface lets music lovers create and record music by selecting from the more than 50 virtual instruments (including a convincing grand piano) and more than 1,000 professional-quality audio loops that can be used in a new composition. Players can also attach instruments to their computer, such as music keyboard or electric guitar (via analog input or microphone), which can be recorded, edited, and mixed together with other tracks.
GarageBand users can also add more instruments and loops with any of four Jam Packs (U.S.$99). These expansion discs each add more than 2,000 additional loops and dozens of new software instruments, among other features.

Interesting. That page was like that since October 2005. TUAW draws attention to it, and suddenly it's gone.
