Microsoft recommends GarageBand for advanced audio editing

It's rare that a rival in the marketplace tosses anything but a canned compliment your way, so it's always refreshing to highlight such a kind gesture. In what is likely a mixup at Redmond or simply the work of a covert Apple guy behind enemy lines, a Microsoft product page about having more fun at home recommends GarageBand for advanced audio editing (scroll to the bottom). Of course, the entry also cites iLife '05, but they even work in a plug for the ever-useful Jam Packs as well.

Now, who wants to place bets as to how soon Apple will recommend Microsoft Expression for 'advanced' web design?

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

I've searched and searched and searched... but I can't find Audio Software with one very important feature: "The ability to extract PURE music from video, and silence all other background noises, speech, and other basic audio in video files." Without this feature, I might as well just be lazy and hold a portable tape recorder to a TV speaker. I'm NOT a novice! I need REAL tools. ADVANCED tools with ADVANCED audio extracting abilities. Can you help me out?

"they are producing iLife 07 to stamp out Mac users touching Office.." I'm sure it's just a simple typo, but I thought I'd mension that I think you mean iWork. To add to your comment, I think I read at thinksecret that the iWork '07 suit will be comming with a stand-alone spreadsheet app. Apple is most definately attacking MS Office head-on. Hopefully the price-tage of iWork doesn't go up too much because of it though.

As for the actual subgect mater... wow. It's amazing to me that this could happen. Apple saying anything nice about MS Office is different-currently Office runs both a the mac a windows, and iWork doesn't yet replace Office completely. But while MS has no directly competeing products, GarageBand is comepletely Mac only. I think if they every find out who put that on the site, unless they are really valuable they're not going to be working for MS anymore.

I wonder if Apple's own news team has picked up on this...

For those who missed it:

Advanced:GarageBand (U.S.$79)
Part of iLife '05, a suite of integrated applications (including iMovie and iDVD), GarageBand is a popular program that turns a Mac computer into a professional-quality recording studio for musicians.
The intuitive interface lets music lovers create and record music by selecting from the more than 50 virtual instruments (including a convincing grand piano) and more than 1,000 professional-quality audio loops that can be used in a new composition. Players can also attach instruments to their computer, such as music keyboard or electric guitar (via analog input or microphone), which can be recorded, edited, and mixed together with other tracks.
GarageBand users can also add more instruments and loops with any of four Jam Packs (U.S.$99). These expansion discs each add more than 2,000 additional loops and dozens of new software instruments, among other features.

Wow! GarageBand has indeed gone. While they were editing it, you'd have thought they might have noted that Cubase SX 3.0 isn't available anymore. The latest version is Cubase 4, with an stripped down entry edition of the older version (Cubase SE) available for those with a tighter budget. The article is dated October 2005. C'mon Microsoft. Is making music on your PC so little valued by you guys, that you can't get just a little more up to date than this.

Yeah, im not a pro engineer or producer but if you asked me to name the pro level apps i would think were in the soundy's tool kit... garage band would nt be one of them. Probably wouldnt be anywhere on my list if let me extend the rankings either... Hardly seems industry standard.
