Will Apple release a black iMac?
With the second quarter of 2007 approaching, people are thinking about hardware updates from Apple. According to MacScoop, Apple may make a black 24" iMac available with the next revision, possibly in March. When the original black iPod sold so well, Apple made the color available to other iPods, as well as the MacBooks. I think a black iMac would be cool, as long as it isn't significantly more expensive just for being black (like the MacBook).

I'm looking forward to this simply due to the fact that this means black keyboards again.

Every other company makes a black LCD display. The white is one of the things that makes the iMac unique.

Smitty is right, but consider how nice LG's and Samsung's really nice, gloss-black monitors look, or the dinovo edge keyboard. Black is the new black.

I just bought a new 24" iMac last month. Therefore, I can guarantee you the black one will indeed show up. Just to tick me off.

I just hope they update the iMac/Mac mini lines with SOMETHING soon. Six months is long enough to wait between refreshes.

It's the same in the US. When you upgrade the mid-level macbook to the 120 GB HDD, the blackbook is only $50 USD more, a little more than 3% difference.

The most important question is what colour the sleep light will be and how they'll get it to glow through the black fascia?

Hmm....a black iMac could be nice. It seems like Apple is giving their "normal" Macs black and white colors, while keeping the "Pro" Macs that aluminum grey.
BTW, that green deesktop pic on the black iMac is coull. Where could I get that pic?

I think it might be nice. I'm not really a fan of white for my electronics, or much else. I'm not ready to lay down US$2k on another computer though.

The black iMac looks cool, but why make the background look like the default Vista green?
Too much Vista envy in the Mac world.

They won't make a black iMac. They'd have to release other black peripherals to make it look right. That would mean a black keyboard, black mouse, black wireless keyboard, black wireless mouse, etc.

I don't really think they would. While the blackbook is perhaps the best looking laptop i've ever seen (i've got a white one, damn the price premium) the black imac looks cheesy and ripoff-ish. I would consider a black mac mini much more likely.

Black iMac would sell big. I've wanted one since I hit control-option-command-8 when on the iMac page once.
I think if Apple did a little better marketing toward business where the cool factor is big (restaurants, clubs, high end retail, hotels), I think they could sell them there especially if they came up with a networking program that works with the iPhone. People could take customer order via touch screen iPhone networked through Airport Extreme and run it through the iMac. You'd increase sales and it'd be great to get rid of that stupid PC box hiding under the counter.
