VisualHub bumped up to v1.22
VisualHub, the popular and easy-to-use video encoding software by Techspansion, has been updated to version 1.22. This latest version offers a number of minor enhancements and bug fixes that should increase usability and productivity. There is nothing entirely new or groundbreaking to speak of, but it's always nice to keep those video encoders up-to-date and running without a hitch. For reference, VisualHub is a robust encoding solution that handles MPEG-4, WMV, MPEG, FLV, AVI, DV, MOV, TS, and a bunch of other formats. Be sure to check out the full list of improvements on Techspansion's page.

I tested the most recent version of VisualHub as a conversion tool for avi.files to iPod. It had the same problem like the free software iSquint: the resulting video picture is always noticeably darker. I wonder if they worked on that flaw.
If you only need a conversion tool for the iPod, iSquint does the trick if you can live with the darker video quality. Still, it's the best thing if you don't want the large files resulting from the Quicktime-iPod-conversion (which I definitely don't).

I have tried loads of conversion tools in the last 6 months or so (including the cute but useless Disco), and this is the only one than consistently does the job for me, regardless of file type.
Not one coaster to date, which is more than I can say for any of the others.

Biffo, Disco is not a conversion tool. It's a burning tool with some (admittedly weak) conversion capabilities built-in for convenience, unlike VisualHub which is a conversion tool with burning abilities. Could be why that didn't work for you. Using a tool for the purpose it was built for goes a long way toward that tool's 'usefulness' to you.

Does anyone know if VisualHub is any faster than Handbrake or iSquint on PPC?

I tried purchasing this a week ago. First their store site was down (showing the default Apache page). I contacted their customer service and never got any replies. When the store was finally back up I tried again and again it failed to work. I wrote again and never got any replies whatsoever from customer service. I'm not contributing to people who don't care about their customers, so I'm definitely skipping VisualHub for good.

Hobbes - try techspansion@mac.com - tyler is a top man who updates his software regularly. It really is the nuts! Give it another go.

Quadrant, techspansion@mac.com was the email I used twice and never heard a single word from them. Sorry, I will pass. Customer service is a key feature in any product for me.

Hobbs - Fair enough I guess. Shame you had a bad time with the email as whenever I have had a problem I used the forums and got a prompt response, often from Tyler the guy who actually writes it! Sorry you had a bad rap.
Dalton - Don't know on the PPC front (Intel myself) but VisualHub does use the latest libraries and have you tried Mediafork? You don't mention what you are trying to do matey! "Faster" for what?!!

You didn't even give me 20 hours to respond to your e-mail, let alone 24 (or 48, like I mention on the Contact page).
By the time I did a run of e-mail replies, I had already received your second e-mail where you said you were already ready to happily "report this experience in anywhere I can".
Sorry I couldn't've made you a happy customer, but you were long gone before I even had a chance to respond.

Hey scralpha, no need to be a smart arse, I'm well aware of what Disco is _supposed_ to be used for: it doesn't work for that either. Perhaps my comment could have been clearer, nevertheless if you want to defend Disco, you'd do it better service by not making yourself sound like an petulant child in yours.
My original point, and hopefully this doesn't hurt scralpha's sensitive feelings too much, still stands, which is that Visual Hub has worked for me 100% of the time over many months, and therefore gets my vote.

Hmm.. Strange comments here about a fantastic app. If I can understand that software experiences may vary from a user to another, I can't figure how one can say that there's numerous flaws in VisualHub or, worst, that the support is bad.
I have numerous files converted by this app and all of those are of outstanding quality. Far better than the ones I got using other apps.
And about support, well, I am using computers since the Commodore 64 and never saw before a support like this one. Any problem you have will find an answer in a couple of hours, even if it's a newbee problem to which they have answered already hundred times.
Sorry to disagree with some of you, but if all the apps I have on my computer were of this quality and supported that way, I would be very happy.

At #9, if you had sent me an email saying what you said here I would have understood, but no reply whatsoever is not good business.

Hobbes, here's what the website says:
"We try to answer every support request within 48 hours."
Patience is a virtue.

Hobbes, you clearly wouldn't know good business if it came up and bit you on the arse. One of the things that marks this app out from the competition is the level of customer service that is provided.
If you want to complain about CS, pick a post about one of Watanabe's apps, you might end up looking a little less dumb.
