As a lifelong Mac user, I haven't had the pleasure of "switching" (something which seems to happen quite often). Sometimes it goes poorly, I'm sure, and the would-be Mac user goes back to a Windows world. Other times, it goes well...very well.Blogger The Northlondonhippie is celebrating his second year as a Mac user with a heartfelt post about his beloved iMac:
"Sometimes, even when it's sleeping, I just glance over at it, sitting quietly in the corner, on my desk and I can't believe how good it looks."
Umm...yeah. it's OK to love your Mac, Northlondonhippie, just don't love your Mac. You see what we mean?
Thanks, Sean!

ummm... you apparently do enough to waste your time sending such a pointless waste of bandwidth and letters.
(there's some irony in my potentially being guilty of the same I suppose but useless tossers with nothing better to do than complain do wind me up).

Anyone else notice the more the Mac user base grows, the more juvenile the posters (derek) get on the Mac sites? Sad. It used to be I'd only see that nonsense on Windows & gaming sites, now they're starting to pollute my favorite Mac reads.

Why so jaded Derek? Clearly you care enough to post, then validate the email. People are weird, why would you go out of your way to be negative about a person who appears to be wholly positive about the thing that gets you a visit this site in the first place?

Oh dear, I was going to post something along the lines of "I know exactly how he feels" but I seem to have wandered into a rather hostile place. I shall depart forthwith...

TUAW is not all SERIOS BIZNES LOL. If you can't just ignore about a little fluff post like this, you should be out reading AppleInsider or something like that, not TUAW. These same comments happen all the time over at Joystiq, too - I'm getting sick of 'em.

I'll ignore the hostility.
*tear* Notice no one ever posts anything like this about their Windows machine (except maybe Bill Gates)? Mac is a beautiful thing and I'm proud to be a member of the Cult of Cupertino.

There are few good working and good looking technical devices with few but sufficient buttons (one, if you don’t count the keyboard) out there. Today’s tech-manufacturers could learn from this. Well, could. Look at your camera!

Wow, Lee Webb. Your comment verges on racism.

mentalsticks, #13: no it doesn't – and he's absolutely right. You mark my words, if anyone manages to create a virus that infects OS X and forces us all to buy nasty virus protection products, it'll be a former Windows user.

@#15: either that, or a gay black commie arab.
My point is: you are blaming an entire group of people, who happened to find out later that macs are nicer than pcs, for something that somebody (who could be an oldtime mac user) might some day do. That's the definition of racism. I am a recent switcher myself, that's why i care about this.

To #4 Yes I have noticed this and it's bugging me too. Call me a snob but I used to consider mac users as more intelligent. Someone that chose a mac was making a considered choice. But nowadays, as growth continues and switchers increase, we get mac users who are 'just' ex PC users, bringing their banality and PC experiences with them. I recommended a mac to a colleague of mine, he bought one, but he continues to be a typical PC user, bashing away on msn messenger all day. It's a sad state of affairs. I'd be happy for growth to stop.

Mentalsticks...What the Hell are you talking about? Try looking up racsim in your dictionary. I'd like you to retract your statement please. I am not a racist, I am a snob. It's like being a member of a club. You join cos you like the exclusivity of it. If every man under the sun starts to join it's not so nice is it?
Martin, thanks for the support.

OK, point taken. I'm a switcher, too, and obviously I'm not referring to ALL switchers. And yes, maybe it'll be some disgruntled former Apple employee who develops the first virus. But I reckon whatever I say won't suit you so I'll leave it at that.

@Lee Webb: of course you are right and of course you are not a racist (I never said you were, though; read carefully). I'm afraid I got a little carried away, and I apologize for that.
However, I did have a point to make: recent switchers are not a homogeneous group, just like oldtime Mac users aren't. I am a very recent switcher (three months), and I take offense to being called 'banale' and my choice for a Mac as being 'unconsidered'. It is this mechanism of attributing a set of properties of (zero or more) representants of a group to the entire group that gets me worked up.

Mentalsticks, you're right, 'on the verge of racism' is what you said. Nonetheless, I appreciate your apology.
While it may seem like I was generalizing, I was in fact responding to poster #4, who in turn was commenting on poster #1 (Derek). It's that kind of response that you never used to see on here, or other apple/mac related forums.
So, it wasn't you I was calling banal and unconsidered. Forgive me for that impression. At least you had the decency to read my comments and offer an apology.
Cheers....no harm done I hope.
