Spanning Sync for iCal and Google Calendar goes 1.0, announces pricing

With the changeover to a full 1.0 app, Spanning Sync has also gone commercial. It now runs as a 15 day demo, and that two-tier pricing system we mentioned offers two choices: either $25 for a yearly subscription (a lá .Mac), or $65 to buy a copy in full.
Check out the refreshed Spanning Sync site for more details and to download a demo.

We've mentioned Spanning Sync, the first utility to truly sync iCal and Google Calendar, once or twice before, but until today it's been...

Just add my name to the list of beta tester to dump this program. I would pay $10 MAYBE $15, but you can forget $65. It was all that great anyway. Too bad some people are so greedy.

If this was $25 one-time I'd buy it once the bugs were ironed out. But a yearly subscription? Jeez.
I've just uninstalled Spanning Sync after I've been using the beta for a week or so. Even with the good exchange rate against the pound (I"m British) its far too much for what it does.
Shame.
This little app was once one of my must-haves when it's released. Ever since I saw the demo of it and the beta, I saw great potential. But for a $25 subscription --subscription? that's most idiotic thing I've ever seen-- or $65 for a full version... No Thanks! It is now completely off my radar.

March 13 2007 at 6:16 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis pricing decision seems particularly silly in light of both the free gCal Daemon for those who don't mind getting their hands dirty with code and the fact that Mark/Space is selling Sync Together, which syncs a hell of a lot more than just calendar info, for $50.
Granted, Sync Together won't sync with gCal, but for those who (like me) were using this as a .Mac alternative to keep two computers synced, Sync Together looks like a no-brainer alternative.
Me too - bye bye, Spanning Sync.
