Spanning Sync for iCal and Google Calendar goes 1.0, announces pricing

We've mentioned Spanning Sync, the first utility to truly sync iCal and Google Calendar, once or twice before, but until today it's been in that 'beta' status that's such a hit with the kids these days. As of this morning, however, beta is no more, for Spanning Sync has reached full 1.0 status and gone commercial. Now, users can bask in the wonders of a true two-way sync between iCal and Google Calendar, as well as syncing between multiple Macs and Google Calendar accounts, and even with iSync-compatible devices like iPods and mobile phones (before you ask: yes, once it's out, the iPhone is invited to the party too). Spanning Sync even works with Google Apps for Your Domain, Google's hosting service (free to individuals or companies of up to 25 users, commercial for more) that offers, amongst other things, Google Calendar and Gmail on your own domain.

With the changeover to a full 1.0 app, Spanning Sync has also gone commercial. It now runs as a 15 day demo, and that two-tier pricing system we mentioned offers two choices: either $25 for a yearly subscription (a lá .Mac), or $65 to buy a copy in full.

Check out the refreshed Spanning Sync site for more details and to download a demo.

Just add my name to the list of beta tester to dump this program. I would pay $10 MAYBE $15, but you can forget $65. It was all that great anyway. Too bad some people are so greedy.

The pricing is crazy! Agreed, .Mac is looking nice right now.

Yep, add me to the list of users who (1) had problems getting sync to work perfectly during the beta period: lots of duplicates and some events not synced at all, even with 1.0, and (2) who will NOT be paying $25 or $65 for a small application that is still bug ridden.

If this was $25 one-time I'd buy it once the bugs were ironed out. But a yearly subscription? Jeez.

I've just uninstalled Spanning Sync after I've been using the beta for a week or so. Even with the good exchange rate against the pound (I"m British) its far too much for what it does.

Shame.

This little app was once one of my must-haves when it's released. Ever since I saw the demo of it and the beta, I saw great potential. But for a $25 subscription --subscription? that's most idiotic thing I've ever seen-- or $65 for a full version... No Thanks! It is now completely off my radar.

Just like the rest of you, I uninstalled it as well. The price is too much.

Dude. Y'all are just cheap. I forked over 130 bucks for a copy for myself and one for my jack russell terrier. Easy.

This pricing decision seems particularly silly in light of both the free gCal Daemon for those who don't mind getting their hands dirty with code and the fact that Mark/Space is selling Sync Together, which syncs a hell of a lot more than just calendar info, for $50.

Granted, Sync Together won't sync with gCal, but for those who (like me) were using this as a .Mac alternative to keep two computers synced, Sync Together looks like a no-brainer alternative.

Me too - bye bye, Spanning Sync.

Diddo with everyone else on the pricing. I was going to post on the Google Group but it seemed to be a waste of time as I was already uninstalling this app. I'd be in this market with a price in the $20's.
