Twiterrific 2.0 public beta announced

Well that didn't take long - Glen Wolsey caught a private beta sneak peek at Twitterrific 2.0 just two days ago, and now The Iconfactory has announced a public beta, not surprisingly, via their Twiterrific Twitter account. This new version includes a veritable landslide of new features, and in addition to the ones we've already mentioned, here are some highlights of the new goodies (though we highly recommend reading the What's New readme included in the download):
  • Twitterrific can now update your iChat/Adium/Skype status using your last tweet. Select the "Update chat status" preference in the configuration panel and the status in all running chat applications will be updated (though note that AIM/iChat apparently only allow a total of 44 characters, including spaces, for available statuses. Away messages don't seem to have this limit though)
  • The main window snaps to the edge of the screen
  • Tweets can be marked as a favorite by clicking on the tweet's heart icon
  • Added Cmd-2 to send a response to the author of the selected tweet
  • Added Cmd-D to send a direct message to the author of the selected tweet
  • The text of the tweet is no longer truncated. The size of the tweet view adapts to the length of the tweet
  • and much, much more!
The Iconfactory hasn't updated their official Twitter product page yet, so be sure to pick up the new download from this tweet. A few of us have been using the beta since we heard about it Friday night (thanks again Glenn!), and I can personally say this is a stellar update to what is now quite possibly the best darn Twitter client out there.

Antoine,
FWIW, I had the same issue, but once I went to twitter.com and logged in manually, then restarted Twitterriffic, it started working again.

Lotta work for something "simple", but there you have it....

Indeed. Twitterific just asks me to "Please wait while tweets are being downloaded..." and does nothing else.

And there is no support website, no forum, no place to find answers to questions, no support email address. I guess I'm supposed to go through the twitterific's twitter site hoping for a tweet answer to my problem.

It's broken for me, and obviously for others too, but since there's no place to get help in getting it to work, I guess it's "love it or go away".

Bye bye twitterific!

Well, what good is a service with revolutionary ideas when it's just not working...?!? :(

At least I haven't been able to connect to twitter.com by either browser or other software for at least a day now...

Twitter is going through some massive growing pains right now; the service is exploding in popularity and it's just a tiny startup company (for now). They don't have the processing power of Google just yet, so yea - we might experience some hiccups here and there for a while.

The service is still a pretty revolutionary idea though, and I would recommend *not* discarding it quite so easily.

Actually I'm pretty close to trashing all that Twitter stuff...!! :(

The service has been lagging a lot lately or even been totally unavailable, Twitterific 1.1 hasn't been able to post tweets to the server for ages, always responding with some error messages...!! Even visiting twitter.com has been a real drag for the last few days or even weeks...

Now I started Twitterific 2.0b and it said "Please wait while tweets are downloaded from Twitter" -- only that it can't download any but keeps poppong up error messages every five minutes...!? And there's no way to quit it either, so I had to kill the whole process...!?!

Wow, Web 2.0 is such great fun...

One of the most powerful features of Twitter is its ability to be updated via text messaging. This allows me to Tweet all the random little things that happen while I'm out.

Meanwhile, my absolute favorite feature of Twitteriffic 2.0 is the new feature that allows it to update your away message in iChat, Skype and Adium. This is incredible offers a much more intuitive away message for my buddies than just a link to my Twitter page.

However, why haven't these two features been combined? Twitteriffic only updates my Adium status when I post from Twitteriffic, it doesn't change if I post a Tweet from my cell phone or the web.

IconFactory, you've made a product here that blows everything else out of the water. Add this one feature and you'd have a perfect product in my opinion.

Nevermind, apparently you can hide these messages in prefs. The folks at Iconfactory thought of everything!

David, the solution is to simply turn off error reporting in the configuration panel. Tips like these and others are available via the Twitterrific profile at Twitter.com. Simply make Twitterrific a friend and then you'll receive these tips and more as they become available.

one thing i find really annoying about twitterific is if it can't reach twitter it pops up with that message telling you so. I would rather it just keep trying to connect at the frequency I set it to, and not bother me if it can't connect

Unfortunately, Growl support is not added in this update, but they say it's on their list.
