iPhone may be delayed
Our sister blog Blogging Stocks reports that rumors "are swirling" that the iPhone may be delayed by quality problems. Website LoopRumors relays rumors from the always controversial but occasionally correct Smarthouse that say that insiders at Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn/Han Hai are concerned about the iPhone's battery and it's talk time. They suggest that Apple may not meet its June 11 date.

Apple never announced June 11 as a date. That was a rumor. Apple just said Jun and in their recent statement said "late June":
Apple Statement
iPhone has already passed several of its required certification tests and is on schedule to ship in late June as planned.

Yea, my bet is that its ship date is announced at WWDC June 11th, which is probably going to be June 30th. And Leopard comes out October 15th, 2007.

Good point. Even though WWDC is in June, we'd be CRAZY to think the would talk about iPhone there. CRAAAZY.

This doesn't surprise me. In fact, I wasn't surprised at them delaying Leopard either. Steve knows the iPhone rollout is mega-more important to the media and tech pundits than Leopard; therefore he's putting as much muscle behind it as possible. I'm sure they can make late June, but it's going to take a Herculean effort and lots of late nights at the office.

This is why Apple doesn't pre-announce things…

Steve Jobs said that Apple has been working on iPhone for 2.5 years. If this is true there is no way that iPhone should be delayed any further than WWDC. I know that iPhone was not finished at Macworld but I think that they should be able to wrap up the development in four months if they are using all of their available programmers. I do believe in not releasing a product until its ready, but c'mon.

A blogger should have something to say that's relevant, but this post is neither. The working prototype hasn't even been certified and approved by the FCC yet, so maybe you can explain how Foxconn/Han Hai could possibly be concerned about battery life and talk time for an item they aren't even building yet.
Stop pimping your related sites to get hits. If you don't have any critical thinking skills, don't say anything at all.

I totally agree with TKelly, I wanted leopard until the iPhone announcement, then I wanted both. I have been saving my pennies for at least one, STOP MAKING ME WAIT LONGER!!!

I call BS on this one. The statement announcing the Leopard delay said that the iPhone had met all of its milestones and was on schedule to be launched on time, and that was very recently. I doubt they would have put out a release saying that if there were doubts as to quality this soon.

Yes, but they said it passed SEVERAL required certifications, not that it had passed ALL of them. There is a difference.
It's also unclear what certifications they're talking about, whether those are internal Apple quality/performance certs or the various government tests.
If the rumors about 20-minute talk time are true, this is a DOA product. No matter how sweet and nice the iPhone might be, 20 minutes of battery is completely unacceptable.
Oh it can't possibly run out of battery that fast, you might say? My old PDA used more or less the same Xscale processor as will be used in the iPhone. When the wifi was enabled, that PDA really DID have about 20 minutes of battery life. With wireless turned off, it had multiple hours of battery. There was a huge difference in power consumption.
For that reason, the wireless feature was only usable when the PDA was plugged into a power outlet. Turning off wireless worked for a PDA but this iPhone is supposed to be a wireless telephone device. Despite all the other things it will be able to do, making phone calls is purpose number 1.
No battery for calls means it's no good.

.. you see WiFi on the iPhone is a problem, just like WiFi on any gadget - the Blackberry, MacBook, you name it.
Steve was very clever to keep switching between the 3 iPhones during his demo time of about 85 minutes.
That doesn't mean the battery on the others died out , but its good not to let everyone see yellow/red bars on the thing when your announcing it..

this wouldn't surprise me AT ALL. especially considering they had to pull staff from Leopard. couple this with news from the other week about an "insider" claiming the device was barely functional and it takes on a little more weight. personally i couldn't give a rats arse if it never comes out, i like to keep my devices relatively simple. something about not putting all your eggs in one basket. i think with all the iphones specs and functions, that thing is gonna require charging every night to keep from going dead in the middle of the day.

Last two lines: "it's" should be "its" - although you got it right in the last line.
