Hex Color Picker

The Hex Color Picker is a very handy tool for web designers who code by hand and need to specify colors by hex code. It adds a sixth tab to OS X's standard Colors palette. The idea is basically that you can select the color you want by one of the other means (crayon box, color wheel, etc.) then click over to the Hex tab, shoot the color hex to the clipboard and then just paste it into your code. In addition you can use the magnifying glass (eye dropper) to get the hex code of any color on your screen. So, for instance, you can see on the right the hex code for TUAW blue (in our logo).

The Hex Color Picker is open source and a free download from waffle software.

I'll add my plaintive plea for a fix to the comment-password system.

"that password thing to comment is so retarded. "

be thankful they haven't implemented that even more retarded comment threading system like at engadget. it has to be the most poorly designed comments system i've ever seen.

Anyway, Hex colour picker : EXCELLENT

Nice try, TUAW, but you don't have your own shade of blue...

So... is TUAW just going to write articles about whatever the Freemacware.com pick of the day is? Seems to be the trend...

Cool ... the only thing I would change would be to let you see multiple color hex codes without having to click on the magnifying glass each time ...

(note to Oliver: you're not alone in your feelings/frustrations)

this should have been by default in mac os x, right?
the mac color palette has always been a source of frustration.
thanks waffles! it's awesome.

(note to TUAW: that password thing to comment is so retarded. i never remember the complex password you've sent, safari doesn't want to store it for some reason, and i can't find how to customize it... so i have to do the email thing all the time.)

I can see the use of this, but the built in "DigitalColor Meter" may be a better solution for most. For one thing it comes with OS X. Secondly, you can mouseover anything on your screen to get a color reading off of it. You're not limited to a pinpoint color either. Expand the aperture slider and you get an average of all colours under the "lens."
