Nokia excited about iPhone
According to this Tech.co.uk article by James Rivington Nokia is super-duper excited about the upcoming iPhone. Nokia CEO Rick Somonson said that the iPhone could "raise the profile of smartphones and boost the market as a whole". Translated, this presumably means that Apple is charging way too much and if they get away with it Nokia can follow suit.
In related news, Coke just wuvs Pepsi, McDonalds is grateful for Burger King's latest offerings and, um, you might want to check your wallet.

I don't think charging the same price will work for Nokia. If people are looking for a phone in that price range, they're most likely going to go for an iPhone if Apple can make it as iconic as the iPod.

Seems like they're looking forward to people seeing the actual phone being a sellable product rather than just a free thing you get when you sign up for a contract. That seems valid to me.

Just goes to show, that like other "tech" blogs, TUAW bloggers don't know much about the news they post.

So, the lions and the sheep will finally lie together in the grass?
Great! Next we have locusts, the seas will turn to blood and some really nasty angel is supposed to rise from the Tigris and break the seals on all my RAID arrays (thereby voiding all my warranties). Things just got worse. A LOT worse....

Actually Rick SIMonson is Nokia's CFO, the bozo running the company is Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo.

of coz... nokia is not taking the god damn risk to be the first entry of high-end touch-only fones.
there's something called 2nd mover advantage in the tech industry. and nokia boys r expecting do to just that.

• I have to disagree. I see this as Nokia finally seeing a chance to wrangle some power from the carriers and helping the US cell market grow in terms of technological advancements. If Apple can pull this off with AT&T, then Nokia, Motorola and others will have an opportunity to do the same with other carriers. It's a win-win situation for consumers regardless of the carrier and manufacturer you go with.

Nokia has had plenty of more expensive phones. I think Nokia probably would have charged $1k for a similar unit if they made something like it.
That doesn't mean I'm excited for iPhone, just stating the facts.

The iPhone is too damned expensive. And this is coming from a person who loves Apple products. I'm not getting it, because I'm not rich, I'm a college student. Guess who make up a large amount of theit target market? College students.
Let me make it clear
College Students =Target Market
College Students = Poor
iPhone = $$$$$!
So, College students cannot have iPhone.
Not to mention the whole 'locked system' thing. I mean really, they could include businesses in their target market if they allowed other people to make programs for it. Sheesh.
Apple's had some great ideas in the past, and their stock is going up, and will probably spike when the iPhone is released.
Then, go down a bit, when no one buys it, and stockholders realize they've wasted a lot of money on something new, exciting, and...unobtainable.
It breaks my heart, but if Apple wants the iPhone to be a success, they need to drop the price, and allow anyone to design software for it.
Who knows, maybe they'll come through at the last minute, which would actually be GREAT for the iPhone and Apple. It's like expecting it to rain all summer, and then, when summer arrives, it's all sun and fun.
I don't know about you, but I'm hoping for sun.
