Rumor: TBWA to create Apple's iPhone ad launch
Advertising Age reports that TBWA will be handling advertising duties for the upcoming iPhone launch. TBWA, which has worked with Apple since 1997, created the recent "Hello" commercial that aired during the Academy Awards. TBWA isn't a single ad firm itself but is rather an "agency network" made up of 258 full service agencies. You can visit the TBWA\CHIAT\DAY subagency that is working with Apple here.
This being an Apple deal, pretty much everyone contacted for the Advertising Age article declined to comment.

Just FYI.. this article is misleading since it says TBWA has been with apple since 1997, when in reality this is the same agency that has been doing apple's commercials since the famous 1983 ad. The only difference is that Chiat/Day (apples agency) was not part of the TBWA network the whole time.

What an awesome rumor! Especially if you consider that TBWA\CHIAT\DAY is doing almost all Apple advertising work for years now...

Apple actually fired Chiat/Day a while back... then re-hired them when Steve rejoined.
And yeah, I wouldn't really call this a rumor.

They better get to updating their website as Apple is listed under the LA section as 'Apple Computer, Inc.' still. The worldwide list simply says Apple, but someone better get on that! tisk tisk.

Duh! TBWA was doing the commercials when *I* was in them. I could have told you this. Not much of a rumor.

Yup, Chiat/Day has been with Apple since the early 80's. They were responsible for Apple's famous '1984' Superbowl commercial.

At least you got the direction of the slashes right in the article. Otherwise - A) so what? B) who cared about advertising and DIDN'T just assume this?

There was a period in the early 90s when the account shifted to BBDO West under Dave Lubars in West LA. They did some very good work. That lasted until 1997, and Lee Clow of Chiat came back in the picture, signified by the 'Think Different' campaign. Chiat print ads in the interim became 'things you can read across the room,' extremely simple. This has been great for Apple, despite the occasional slipups like the Eminem iPod ad that was sourced a little too closely from psyop's 2001 Lugz ad.
