The iPhone's "Most Wanted"

Despite the fact that no one can even buy an iPhone yet, people are already describing what its next set of features ought to be. There's a thread at the iPhone forum that lists what they're calling "The Seven Most Wanted iPhone Widgets" (Basically, they just picked seven Dashboard widgets they'd like ported to the iPhone). I'm not as convinced. Here they are:
  1. iTunes Stats. Basically, this displays an exhaustive amount of trivial information regarding your iTunes library, like "Number of songs with no artist info" and "Number of playlists." I can't imagine strolling through the mall with my iPhone and suddenly needing to know how many of my songs are unrated. But that's me.
  2. Hangman. Yeah, OK. Games are fun.
  3. RSS Feeds. Call me an old stick-in-the-mud, but I can't think of a single RSS feed that I must have immediately available every second of the day. I figure I can wait the thirty minutes it may take me to get to my computer. Pass.
  4. Sudoku. See #2.
  5. Harmonic. Ok, so it *might* be fun to confirm a song's lyrics on-the-go. I said "might."
  6. Flappie. Um, no.
  7. TV Scheduler. I already have a tool that I use to monitor what's on my TV. It's called, "my TV." It works great.
There's only 1 widget I'd actually really love to see on the iPhone, and that's one that will teleport me from my backwoods, stick town to a major city that actually gets reception from Cingular/AT&T. Until then, I probably won't be getting an iPhone.

Thanks, Chris!

Things I want:

VNC - to control my home or office computer wherever I am.
iChat Mobile - 3-way video conference from wherever I am.
Tube widget (UK) - So I can see if the London Underground has died before I start walking to the station.
A radio tuner widget or app - while most of the time I will be listening to MP3/AAC/M4a files, the choice to listen to any radio station would be good. Maybe this shouldn't be an app, but be hardware (like DAB) given me local digital radio without taking bandwidth.

Just some thoughts.

I'll have to say that the only use I currently have for RSS is for podcasts. Safari's RSS support really didn't work for me.

Dear TUAW,

I agree with Turkish, and would add this:

Don't you think assigning a story about a product called an "iPhone" to a self-admitted cellphone-aphobe is bordering on the ridiculous?

If Dave doesn't see the need for a person to be wired into the grid, more power to him. He just shouldn't be one of the bloggers posting these kinds of stories, that's all.

Sincerely,

Someone who thinks the whole Weblogs, Inc network is fast approaching the shark jumping ramp.

"1. Terminal emulation. If I could ssh from the thing, it would rule. If not, it's not very useful."

Riiiiiiight. A phone/iPod that doesn't have ssh is "not very useful." Ok. Sure. Whatever you say.

2. A widget that makes it compatible with Verizon's network, so it'll actually be usable.

So, basically, everyone just wants phone capabilties on their laptop. Oh, and they want the laptop to be a palmtop...

I think this is interesting. We're getting to a point in tech development where we're talking about merging devices large and small. And that's exciting to me!

Cheers,
FL

iChat mobile with some sort of periscope adaptor for face to face videochatting. And a keynote player.
