Mailplane 1.46 adds multiple accounts and menubar notifer

We keep teasing you with news about the as yet unreleased Mailplane, but this excellent dedicated Gmail client just keeps getting better. The latest update to 1.46 adds several very cool features, most importantly multiple account support. You can now use Mailplane to access different Gmail accounts, simply by double-clicking the account name in the drawer. This release also adds a menubar notifier, which very cleverly includes multiple accounts at the same time so you can check for new mail easily from either account. Finally, there's also a new text snippet feature that allows you to easily insert often typed text.

I've been using Mailplane for a few months and I must say that it is shaping up to be a stellar release. It's one that I'll spend my own hard-earned money on when it comes out. Unfortunately, Mailplane is still in closed beta, but you can apply to be a beta tester.

With all of the add-ons, menubar items, and growl notifications I have plugged into Firefox, it seems like I already have these features (although I did apply to beta test just to see if this really is an improvement). I'd like to try it, but really, I can have the same functionality built into a browser like Firefox.

Not to sound like a mozilla snob, of course, because this sounds great for anyone not using mail.app or firefox with add-ons.

As someone said above, whilst I'm a BETA tester for this, I still prefer Mail.app over this. Nicer integration with OS X.

I would LOVE to try this product out but even though I have requested a beta of the app, I have never gotten any info or response. If anyone knows how a Gmail obsessed guy could get a hold of this, let me know!

I downloaded this a while ago after I got my invite... but I just don't see any point to it. I already use Mail.app for my email accounts

@John, if you use Gmail with Apple Mail, you have to use POP. When you use POP, your email no longer stays inn sync wherever you may be. If you use normal webmail, you lose the desktop integration offered by desktop email programs like Apple Mail. Mailplane seems to try to offer the best of both worlds.

I haven't used this app but I know Mail doesn't really understand Gmail's "conversation" structure. It also has the annoying habit of not recognising when I've read an email via the web, so all of my emails come up as unread when I sign into Mail back at home.

Finally, they seem to have fixed the hang-on-send bug. I was so sick of that. The menu notifier is a great addition too, I no longer have to run a separate app to do that.

@John: My main reason for using it is the attachment handling, and being able to use OS X keyboard shortcuts. I can attach stuff my dragging and dropping onto a message, and saving stuff is a lot nicer too.

I see that this is a application that looks good and seems to have some great features, but why use this instead of gmail with the mail application that comes with OS X? It seems to be redundant as OS X software. I must be missing something.
