Engadget and ads confirm iPhone on sale June 29
When Apple says 'late June' apparently they mean 'almost as late as you possibly could get and still have it be June.' Earlier today, our buddies at Engadget posted the news from a TV tipster that Apple's new iPhone ads would feature a launch date -- Friday June 29. Were they on the money? If you were watching 60 Minutes tonight, you know they were. Our Dan Lurie suggests you note carefully the small text at the end of the ad: "requires minimum new 2 year activation plan." Save those pennies! All three of the new iPhone ads are now posted over at apple.com for your enjoyment. To all of you who were expecting an iPhone under your seats at WWDC... well, tough noogies.

I was wondering if there would be an option to use the keyboard in landscape mode. I mean that would more sense to me at least.

One wonders if a class action lawsuit from people who were misled into thinking that it has location ability, is going to be one way to cut the cost of ownership .
In reference to the Calamari ad... How does it know which is closest? Does it search nearest to the zipcode in which your phone is registered, or could this be a hint at some kind of GPS capability?
June 04 2007 at 11:11 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyanyone know if existing cingu/att customers can get the iphone/upgrade at apple stores or if they'd have to go to cingu/att stores to do the contract extension?

Think about this from at&t's stand point. Say in December you opened a Cingular account and got a Razr for $49.99 a phone which costs $349.99 unsubsidised. That basically gave you $300 off under the guise of a 2 year contract where they have guaranteed revenue of atleast $40 * 24 months or $960. If you have only used this for 7 months they have only made $280. That isn't even enough to cover the cost difference on the phone.
They can't make special arrangements just because a new phone comes out. What about the customers who buy a phone today, and don't want an iPhone, but a new HTC comes out something better than the 8525 should they get to change phones? No.
You have 2 options (1)-cancel your contract pay your early termination fee from $150-$200 depending on when you signed your contract, lose your phone number and get a new phone. or (2)-add the iphone as a new line of service, and keep your existing phone. If someone in your family can use it, problem solved if not, make it and the Iphone the cheapest family plan for the number of minutes you need, and don't use the phone.
Obviously I don't know for sure, because nobody does, but I sell cell phones for a national retailer, and have sold, Cingular/at&t, Sprint/Nextel and Verizon, and all pretty much say the same thing, too bad. T-Mobile is the only company I could see doing something for you, but they are head and shoulders above the big 3 in terms of customer service. at&t's upgrade is available after 21 months I believe they may drop that to 18 or someting but if you are in your first 12-14 months there is probably little or no chance of upgrading.
This question is for current Cingular/AT&T customers:
Are we going to have to wait for everyone else to get their iPhones with new 2 year service agreements until we can get ours? I am fully expecting to pay the $599 ($650.66 w/ tax in NY) since I already have a contract. I really don't want to wait much longer for this thing. I know with the Sidekick 3, people who already had T-Mobile got a chance to buy it for a few weeks before everyone else. I doubt this will happen with the iPhone since it's an Apple product, but it'd be a cheap shot to the rest of us who already have Cingular/AT&T if they didn't let us get it with everyone else.
Anyone remember what was said at D5 :D?

Yawns at another all-in-one. ;-)
Doesn't that keyboard look really difficult to use to you?
