iPhone email arrives
If you signed up over at Apple for iPhone announcements, you might want to check your email. Apple just sent out a mass mailing about the June 29th iPhone release. (AT&T sent out a nearly identical letter a few minutes later.) In the message, Apple suggests you start getting ready by updating your address book with your contacts (they'll sync to your iPhone and you can use them to place your calls and send email), by bringing your iCal calendar up to date, by setting up your iTunes playlists (remember, the iPhone only has 4 or 8 GB of space so playlists, especially smart ones, are totally the way you'll want to go) and by signing up for a Yahoo! or Gmail account.
As a final note, your iPhone will require an iTunes Store account. Your iPod doesn't require this, but your iPhone does. Another thing that makes TUAW go hmmm and our Mexican and Canadian readers roll their eyes in disgust.
Thanks to everyone who wrote in

Yeah, yeah, yeah...whatever. How about some info on plan pricing, so I can decide if I can afford this damn thing over the next two years?
Come on guys! (Apple/AT&T)

The photo of the iPhone included with the email, it shows two appointment items on the Calendar. #1 "6:00PM - Pickup iPhone" and #2 "7:00PM - Call Mom"

Gmail account? Did I miss something? I thought it was favored towards Yahoo mail, especially for its push email feature.

I didn't get an AT&T e-mail, and I'm on both lists... What's up with that?

I got the letter, and found it posted on the iPhone website as well.
Curious...Why the iTunes account? Anyone?
And is there a way to get your .Mac mail forwarded to a "push" Yahoo email account? (sorry, new to the whole mobile mail scene...)

You can use a regular old POP account right? I'm guessing though that you have to manually check your email?? Is that the difference from a "Push" account?

why a gmail account? This is intriguing. I spent a few hours yesterday trying to find away to elegantly integrate Mail.app with gmail because I assumed Mail would be the best way to read email on an iPhone.

with an iTunes account they can track where the phone is therby preventing thefts like with the ipods. also they will know if the ipone has left the country because syncing the iphone will update their database with your IP address.

.Mac _is_ IMAP, Bill
@8: the e-mail mentions iPhone has check e-mail tasks, just like Mail/Outlook. It will look for you. Betcha that uses some of your alotted bytes-per-month, though.
I really want to know if I'll be able to use Aperture to sync photos. I'm guessing no, because Aperture makes versions, and originals and it's great for pro photo organizing, but I also really don't want to have to maintain two photo libraries just to be able to carry some photos around and show people.
Anyone have any ideas?

Well, that kind of kills any hope that the iPhone might arrive to Mexico in this century...u_U

Is it true that the battery can't be replaced just like the iPod? And then you're stuck with the lousy 1st generation battery with minimal life?

Does anyone else find it strange that they used a Microsoft Outlook screenshot (as opposed to Mail.app)to depict mail syncing on the iPhone page at the Apple website?

Funny, I called my local AT&T store to ask if they had a waiting list or reservation list and the guy implied that they'd start selling the phones as soon as the store opened. Don't know if they'll change that later on or not.

I havent had a blackberry or anything, but Im pretty sure "push" email just means you dont have to press a button to download your new mail. Your email is automatically "pushed" out to your mobile.
looks like i was right-

With regards to push... it is over-rated and over exaggerated. Your PC is not push, and MIDP 3.0 versions of new mobile phones will allow for always-on, always-running applications. Like your PC the application will simply poll your email server and bring down your new email. If you want a notification (to be interupted like push everytime an email comes) you can do so. Point being... with MIDP 3.0 when you check your email, all your latest email is there for you to read and enjoy. Push is hype.
