This app is about efficiency at a much lower cost in terms of system resources. Right now Photoshop is using 75% more virtual memory on my system than Skitch and the process of (for example) capturing a screenshot and sending it via Adium for me just went from approximately one minute to about 7 seconds if I have to open the applications simply to make a JPG. The interface is perfect for an application of small design. Nothing worse than having five inspectors cluttering your screen just to do simple things like pick color or select a tool. If I have to open an inspector just to pick a color, you're wasting my time. Put the tools where they're accessible. The only thing I would have done differently here is put the undo and clear buttons at the top.

Not to mention the fact that unless Fireworks has FTP uploading capabilities, neither of Adobe's apps make sharing pictures on the web 1/10th as easy as Skitch does. One-click uploading to MySkitch, Flickr, FTP, or a .Mac account *as well* as automatically copying the URL of the shared picture to your clipboard is a powerful thing. Heck, Fireworks and Photoshop can't even access my iSight camera to take a live shot, nor can they access my Aperture or iPhoto libraries.
