Macworld UK reports that EMI is seeing an uptick in purchases from iTunes since iTunes Plus was introduced. For instance, sales of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon [iTunes Link] have increased 350% (we all know hippies don't like DRM. I kid, I kid). The real question is whether the uptick in purchases can be attributed to the lack of DRM or the higher bit rate encoding? Either way, this is good news for those of us who welcome a world without DRM.

I'd only bought one album from iTunes before they upgraded. Last week alone I bought 5. I'll definitely buy more once albums I want are released in iTunes plus.
Why now? Both DRM & higher bit rate. If it was only one or the other I wouldn't of purchased the albums.

I actualy bought DSOTM and Wish You Were Here after iTnes plus went live, i had bought a single song before that. For me it was the combination of Higher quality (I stop being able to tell a difference at 196 but 128 is annoying enough to where I actively avoid it) and the lack of drm. I have uses that surpass iTunes general drm restrictions so previously iTunes was not really an option.

I'm one of the people who bought DSOTM after it went plus. A big other reason was it's very reasonable price, $8 for one of the best albums of all time. I got rid of my "other" copy and was glad to support a kick ass band.

Yup, I'm another. I bought DSotM because..
- I've never owned it before
- 256k is great
- no DRM is great
- $7.99 is a great price
(Note that the album is only 9 tracks, so it would only be $8.91 anyway, though two tracks are album-only) I looked at the other $7.99 albums but there wasn't anything else I wanted.

Maybe the huge jump in sales for Pink Floyd has something to do with the fact that Roger Waters is touring and has recently come to cali in LA, Irvine and Oakland? (I went to the Oakland one). Thats the reason I bought 3 of their albums today only :)

I will never buy music with DRM on.
Since joining iTunes when iTunes Plus came out I have bought 1 album, 1 EP, and about half a dozen separate tracks.
One disappointing thing is that not all EMI music is available in Plus. I really want to buy a Smashing Pumpkins compilation (their back catalogue is Virgin/EMI) on iTunes, but it's got DRM, so I can't play it on my MP3 player/in my car or media center.
Hopefully this will convince other labels to sell music this way. They'll certainly get a lot of money out of me!

Sounds great! I wonder when we'll see the indie labels' catalog on iTS. Maybe by Sepctember?
Not sure if this has been asked before, but are the tracks encoded with a VBR?

I've been holding to buy Dark Side of the Moon ages ago, so this was the perfect moment, kudos to EMI and Apple, to other labels... if this is not an advise on the way to go, I don't what else they need.

@ChuckG, I see nothing about VBR under the Summary tab of Get Info.
