Over lunch, TUAW reader Eddie swung by his local AT&T store near his office to check out their new iPhone displays. He reports that the display was not fully installed when he got there (he snapped this pic for everyone to share) and it appears that the display is being powered by, of all things, a Dell. Dude! The video, which runs on repeat, is about three or four minutes long. It appeared to be in HD and looked very sharp. Thanks Eddie!

ive worked in digital signage for quite some time now, and even being the mac fanboy i am, i have to admit, nothing works better than linux for that type of app. constantly hitting its own server, hard drive spinning all day, getting updates, syncing with its server, etc, etc. ive never seen the same results when run on a mac (what i develop on before uploading to linux, usually debian).
so even though it is on a dell, i understand where they are coming from...

@Tim, Not to mention the cost of an Apple vs. Cost of a PC.

Maybe it's something to do with an endorsement? With Apple's infinite wisdom I would have thought they'd figure out how to advertise their product in AT&T stores - maybe give each store a Mac Mini and a Cinema Display?
Maybe Dell beat them to it.

I worked at an AT&T store and we had those displays and they just show random videos. Those have probably been in the store for 3-4 years running on those Dells, and its just a video loop, so they are not going to switch to an Apple just to run a video because its of an iPhone. Once the whole iPhone hype dies down, they will use that same display to show you something else. All the fanboys can calm down, no one is being a "sell out" here.

@Ioan: if you're going to put alternative lyrics to a well-known song, at least make them fit.
