eMusic gives Steve free subscription, tries to cash in on iPhone-mania
I don't know about you, but I just can't get enough iPhone related news! The latest company trying to hitch their wagon to the iPhone star is eMusic. eMusic, you might know, is an online purveyor of digital music downloads (they are the second biggest, right behind iTunes) but the cool thing about eMusic is that they sell MP3s sans DRM. Their whole catalog is DRM free, which means they have a smaller catalog than iTunes but you can play it on any device you own (and even some you don't).They are trying to make news by offering Steve Jobs a free lifetime eMusic subscription as a thanks for DRMless music in iTunes (though I have a feeling Steve gets his music from iTunes). They are offering 35 free songs for the 'iPhone.' I won't point out that this is eMusic's standard free trail membership offer, since that would make me something of a wet blanket.
I have used eMusic before, and I suggest you check it out. I mean, free music is free music, right?

eMusic isn't a bad service, but it can't compare (of course) to iTunes. Getting around the store can be clunky at times, and some songs really just sound like they were recorded live from an LP over a phone line.
The 35 Free songs trial, however, is completely hassle free. Sign up, get your tunes, then cancel. I don't get any spam from them such as "come back now" offers, and there weren't any numbers to call or hoops to jump through cancel.

I believe the standard offer is 25 free songs, so this is 10 more than usual.

I used eMusic for months. I really enjoyed the service. It's completely hassle free and I'm really pleased with the quality of the songs I got. I highly recommend it to anyone. The only reason I cancelled the subscription is that I really benefit more from a per song service like iTunes, rather than pay a flat fee whether I buy songs or not. I "wasted" a couple of months without buying a single song, but still paying the subscription fee. If they change their model I would go back right away.

#4 - they set up an iPhone-less RSS feed and you still complain? Plus, the post had 'iPhone' in the title - did someone point a gun to your head and force to you read it?

I have an eMusic account and I love it. If anyone wants a trial with 50 free songs, send me an email (dk45 [ at ] mac [ dot ] com) and I will send you an invite.

I tried eMusic and did not care for it - I joined when they had a Free Music Download offer and I could not find any downloads that fit my taste. iTunes has been my music download service of choice. They offer a weekly free download.
