iTunes 7.3 to debut
The updated iPhone specifications page indicates that we should expect to see a new 7.3 update of iTunes, likely before this weekend. Just as 7.1 introduced Apple TV support and 7.2 introduced iTunes Plus, 7.3 brings iPhone functionality to the table. In case you missed this marvelous TUAW iTunes retrospective the first time round, step back in history and review iTunes from version 0.0 all the way up to 7.0.
Thanks, Fraser Drew.

I think the "USB 2.0" requirement is the killer. - Well, that and having to reside in the USA ;-)
Seriously though, the GREATEST (modern) MAC ever is the iMac G4 (aka LampMac...)

Fraser, have you tried reinstalling 10.4.10.

Fraser: Yes, they mean it. 10.4.10 installs the Yahoo! frameworks needed.
Vineet: Thanks! I saw your tip. However, the post was already written and submitted. Sorry about that.

@ Pepe,
If you don't have USB2.0 then you need to take that $500 you were going to spend on an iPhone and get a computer built in this century.

so when do you think they are going to change the name of iTunes to properly reflect what all it does these days?

I have USB 2.0 on my G4. I went to CompUSA a year or two back and bought a card for about ten bucks. Easy to install.

Am I the only one who wants updates to iTunes that go beyond new compatibility with products I don't have? How about better RAM usage, or quicker start times. It's not the lightest program in the world. Some optimization wouldn't hurt.

In a demenstrational video I saw of activating the iPhone, it appeared that iTunes 7.3 was running, and had slightly updated icons, and the black changed to aqua blue. So there is some obvious aqua in iTunes 7.3. Happy me.

@ Leonard Nimrod
I am just saying, the LampMac is the greatest ever and works very well. My MacBook though, is cool too ;-)

USB 2.0? Does this mean the 1st Gen iPods are finally going to be obsoleted by iTunes???

I don't need any fancy iPhone updates or anything in particular. All I want is for iTunes to properly utilize folders! Why does everything go in the iTunes folder??? Why can't videos go in.. oh I don't know.. THE VIDEOS FOLDER? Seriously, especially when you are trying to manage several harddrives... this is an issue that needs to be addressed!

iphone will not function without activation and will not activate unless itunes 7.3 is installed.
just tested it with 7.2
guess the ones who have the boxes already and are trying to get a sneak preview or early activation will have to wait until apple releases itunes 7.3

@ 14: it is possible to store your movies and TV shows on external drives, and store pointers (media links) or reference movies in the iTunes library... But I agree, iTunes should look natively in the movie folder without the need for these pointers.

if one doesn't have iPhone, or hope to buy one :) (not available in this part of the world) and no need for streaming videos/photos etc., is updating to iTunes 7.3 really required?
(I use iTunes only to listen to my music library)
