Steven Levy's iPhone NOT almost stolen on live TV
Update: A close analysis of the audio (thanks Brian and commenters!) indicates that the perp was actually going for the Fox reporter's microphone and not the iPhone itself. Stranger and stranger.
Oh, man, this is just getting completely out of hand. Dailymotion has a clip of Fox News interviewing Steven Levy outside the 5th Avenue Apple Store today, and just as the Newsweek writer was saying how he's one of only four people to have gotten an advance look at the iPhone... blammo,in swoops a would-be thief who accidentally grabs the reporter's microphone in his attempt to get at the iPhone.
Nobody hurt, and they apparently grabbed the guy... but c'mon, everybody, please settle down before someone gets hurt. See the video after the jump.

This rumor is FALSE. The interloper wanted the reporter's microphone. He snatched it from her and ran away. The microphone was recovered and the show went on. At least one site, Engadget, maybe, has the video.

I don't know if I'd call this an iPhone incident. Looks more like some chump wanted to dick around with the shoot.
To me, I'd chalk this up to "I want to make some kind of statement because I'm cool and anti-establishment" rather than "I'm gonna grab me some iPhone."

Didn't look to me like an attempt to steal the phone. I watched it several times. It was an attempt to steal the mic, or interrupt the broadcast. A lot of people have an axe to grind with fair and balanced Fox News.

I just think it was someone who really hates Faux 'News'. He never made a grab for the iPhone. I would have done the same thing if being arrested wouldn't get me fired from a job.

i don't believe he was after the phone - i think he was after the mic and wanted to interrupt the video... "gimme that f'n mic" i believe he says as he grabs the microphone... intent is not for the phone.

That was a repeated gag on Trigger-Happy TV, if anyone remembers it -- some dodgy-looking person would be hanging around during an interview, then swoop in, grab the mic, and run off.
Dunno, but that was the first thing I thought of.

It never ceases to amaze me how childish liberals become over Fox News. You'd think that having CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, NBC, AP, Reuters, NY Times, Washington Post, BBC, Hollywood, etc., ad infinitum, towing the liberal line that libs wouldn't get so worked up about Fox News.
