Strings in iTunes 7.3 that make us go hmmmm
This morning, I had the opportunity to download and install iTunes 7.3. Of course, one of the first things I did was to head to the package contents to see what had changed between this version and the last. Here is a collection of about a half-dozen updated strings that leapt out at me regarding the new iPhone features. I've only gone through the files in a very cursory fashion, but I thought I'd share this collection of strings that made me go 'hmmmm.'
"4320.071" = "Enabling the iPhone for disk use requires manually ejecting the iPhone before each disconnect, even when automatically syncing music."
If the iPhone has disk use then maybe we'll be able to access the OS X data directly. I'm guessing, however, that they've set it up like Apple TV with the OS in a hidden part of the disk and the data itself on another, visible section. It would be lovely if secure shell access involved nothing more than enabling disk access and editing a few OS X files.
More as we continue..."4320.079" = "The iPhone "^1" contains new voice memos. Would you like to move these voice memos to your iTunes library?";
The last I heard (from David Pogue's NY iPhone Question List), the iPhone would not support voice memos.
"4320.225" = "The iPhone "^1" is connected to a low-speed USB 1.1 port. For better performance, you should connect it to a high-speed USB 2.0 port, if one is available on your computer.";
Those of you wondering whether you could use your iPhone with USB 1.1 (the official specs say that USB 2.0 is required) might be interested in this iPhone string from iTunes 7.3. It looks like you might be able to sacrifice performance but still use your older setup.
"4320.300" = "iTunes has detected a Macintosh-formatted iPhone. You must restore this iPhone before you can use it on Windows.";
Looks like the age-old "Formatted for Mac"/"Formatted for Windows" dichotomy hasn't been resolved with the iPhone.
"4320.351" = "Read iPhone safety guide before use.\rSee www.apple.com/support/manuals/iphone";
This page hasn't gone live yet.
"4361.015" = "contacts, calendars, bookmarks and mail accounts";
Things you can sync between your computer and your iPhone.
/* ===== Yahoo! Strings ===== */
"4362.001" = "Yahoo! Address Book";
"4362.002" = "Enter your Yahoo! ID and password:";
Lots of Yahoo! syncing strings are in the iTunes 7.3 update

Unfortunately I am in India and the phone is not launching here today... btw, one thing about iTunes 7.3 is that it shows a dialog box reporting which album artwork it could not get...

E-Mail me at bene7979 aaat googlemail.com. I might have just the solution you need at hand... greetings.
Had some problem syncing my iPod shuffle 2nd generation after updating to iTunes 7.3. The error read something like "Ipod shuffle attempt to copy to disk "iPod's name" failed. An error occurred (-54)". I reverted back to iTunes 7.2 and the problem does not seem to arise anymore.
@KSB: You should go over to awkwardtv.org and learn how to hack an AppleTV. It's very easy. You don't even need to crack the AppleTV open anymore. And there are lots of plugins that people have written for it. I bet if you give $20 bucks to the ATVFiles plugin author, he'll add a looping feature, assuming there isn't already such a feature. Check the awkwardtv.org forums and wiki for more info.

These limitations are the same on Windows. On Windows the latest Service Pack is required, so it's understandable that it would be the same on Mac.
Joe - A MBP is too expensive to only show videoclip looping in HD quality. The Apple Tv has HDMI and composite video options and it's a small size. We want to recommend our clients buying Apple tv's to showcase their products at their firms/shops and more, instead of running bad quality from a dvd player.

I'm assuming you had that installed, anyway; browsing the Apple discussion boards revealed that solution, and I had the same problem.
However, my new problem is that iTunes 7.3 doesn't want to save my iTunes library, and gives me an error instead (every couple of seconds, I might add)! I think there might be a 7.3.1 in the near future, as this was happening to TONS of people on the boards.
