Best Buy hints at iPhone Canada
Canada's Best Buy* website has posted a page (littered with typographical and grammatical errors) that interested Canadian shoppers can use to sign up for email notification of iPhone availability. So, it looks like the iPhone will be available at Best Buy in Canada, once it launches.Now someone get a copy editor on that ad, mmkay?
*Best Buy is a big box electronics store in the US and Canada.
Thanks, Grant!

Already gone. Weird.

I find it hard to believe that Best Buy will be selling iPhones. I think it's more likely that this was a ploy by Best Buy to sign people up for their spammy "newsletter" mail list.

I dunno what's going on with that, but they did bother to translate it:

It should be remembered that there aren't that many Apple Stores in Canada, so it makes some sense that Apple would partner with a retailer, but Best Buy doesn't seem like the best idea. Then again they own Future Shop, which is better positioned through out Canada... so who knows.

I don't think that the Best Buy page means anything, but even if it does, I still haven't been convinced by what I've seen from the iPhone. I get my digital music wirelessly streamed through the "M" app from Mercora, and with the other features I get through my Q, I would have to say that I'm pretty contented with what I've got.

Judging by the aforementioned grammaterical errors, it seems likely that it was translated into English from French, not vice versa :)
It is Canada, after all.

@Peekay21
This is an article about the Best Buy webpage, not your opinion of the iPhone. If your Q does everything you need then great, I'm glad you found something that does everything you need. But keep your opinions to yourself about the iPhone's "shortcomings" especialy in posts having nothing to do with what you think about the iPhone.

@Andrew:
Please keep the snark to a miniumum. Peekay21's comment didn't do anything to detract my enjoyment of reading the comments for this post. Yours, on the other hand... yikes!
I guess I should apologize in advance for not posting this with the post about posting to snarky posts.

I don't really see Apple partnering with BestBuy to sell the iPhone if they don't do it in the states first. I agree there are less Apple Stores but there sure as hell isn't a shortage of Rogers Wireless stores those things are everywhere. Theres 5 or so all within a few km of eachother.
I'd rather see them partner with Futureshop, even though its owned by BestBuy it has a much more canadian feel vs the american vibe BestBuy has. No offense to americans, but I like it our way better.

@Justin, yes it is Canada afterall, where Best Buy runs out of Burnby, BC, noted home of franco-Canadians.. oh wait.. no...
Here's how media works in Canada. Either it's done out of Toronto and then, as an after thought, translated into French (usually so badly as to be detectable by me) or the company has a clue and just hires a Quebec based ad firm to do the campaign for them.
That said, this is still an article about a Best Buy page.. I chatted up some Rogers guys at one of their stores, they swore up and down they'd have it on release or soon after.
I just figure Apple will get Best Buy to do some kind of in-store Boutique for them.

Best Buy doesn't sell enough Apple products in their stores. Very few sell Macs. -_- I sometimes go to the computer section to get a laugh at all the PCs running Vista.
That's the only thing it's good for now.

See, I am a salesmen at Future Shop, we are 180% to our budget in Apple sales. And we for sure will not get the iPhone. Why? Rogers isn't available for us. They signed a deal with A&B sound over us...idiots. This applies to Best Buy and Future Shop. We got Fido. Until this changes, we aren't getting it I would love to, because I would get my $75 apple discount...yay. With corporate rates!

Not sure about Canadian Bestbuys/Futureshops. But US Best Buy's are supposed to be getting them in about two weeks.
Best Buy and Apple have a big partnership now, and you'll start to see more and more of the Mini-Apple stores launch.
I know this, because I'm a "Apple Expert" at the Best Buy in Boca Raton, Florida. I think we're the first to get the Mini-Apple Store in South Florida, but i've seen a list of all the launches, and there are a ton planned for the next few months.

Peekay21 is trolling. Andrew had a point and a right to call him on it. (And it DID detract from my 'enjoyment' of this post.) But since you seem to think it's OK to just troll about off-topic, how do you feel about hockey? Did you know in Canada they sell milk in bags?
Wait...that's still kinda on-topic...
So, I fed my cat this morning. She is black, but there is a chunk missing from her tail. Black is not really a color, you know...but the ABSENCE of color. So is a black cat really the abcense of a cat? Hmmm...chew on that while you search for other worthless trolls to champion.

@Billy K:
See, I'm not sure we agree about what constitutes trolling, and what doesn't. I don't consider an off-topic opinion to automatically be a troll, but posting to tell someone to keep their opinon to themselves *does* seem ... well, at least more inflammatory.
In response to your other inquiries, even though I'm Canadian (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan),I'm not a big fan of hockey, and yes, I understand that you can buy milk in bags up here. I haven't actually noticed the 'milk-bag' aisle in the store, but I'm sure to come across it one of these days.
And just for fun, something on-topic: I think that Gene Cowan's comment (#2) is probably most on the mark; whether or not iPhone comes to Canada, and whether or not Best Buy sells it if it DOES, this is most likely a cheap attempt to get email addresses. If people need news on a release date for this - or any other Apple product - why, they can check sites like TUAW, or Apple.ca.
Comment #13 worries me ... really? A deal with A&B Sound over Futureshop? The same A&B Sound that have been closing up shop, and retreating back to BC? Wow. That's disappointing, if true. Even still, Best Buy / Futureshop could always sell the hardware, and send people to a Rogers store; or an exception could be made. Unfortunately, all we can do is wait and see.

You mean they don't sell milk in bags in the States? Huh.
Please note, we also have cartons, but the plastic jugs are now quite rare.

Nope. I've never seen bagged milk except in photos. It's...disconcerting to me (and many Americans, I believe).
Oh, and cartons are all but gone here (Texas). It's almost all plastic jugs of some type.

Apple is hiring staff in Canada to serve in-store boutiques in existing retailers, likely to include Best buy and FutureShop. I know because I applied and interviewed for such a post a month ago. Apple has existing arrangements and sells products (although minimally) in these stores so it seems logical that they will offer the iPhone here as well, the more venues the better.

Rogers bought Fido a couple of years ago. Most of Fido's wireless traffic already has been integrated onto the Rogers network.
Bestbuy Canada and Futureshop are the same company with slightly different business models. Not sure why they would compete against themselves, but they do. They are both headquartered out of the same building in Burnaby BC.
Other than Toronto (who sometimes view themselves as the centre of the world), I don't know where else in Canada there is an Apple Store. Certainly not in Vancouver. Hence, Bestbuy/Futureshop is the major chain carrying Apple....oh, so does London Drugs.
There are also minor grammatical and spelling differences in Canadian and American(US) English so I wouldn't make too big a deal about the "grammatical errors".
The iPhone will be subject to DOC and CRTC approval. Having worked in the telecom industry in Canada, that means it might take a l-o-n-g time before the iPhone hits the market.
