Dr. Macenstein suggests that now is the time to act. He writes (and he is a he, right--it's not a Frau Doctor Macenstein?) that Apple Store Genius say there's currently no official stuck pixel policy for iPhones (while there are official policies in place for monitors and laptops). If your iPhone suffers from a bad pixel or two, you'll want to bring yours in and get a replacement asap, i.e. before an official policy rears its ugly head. The article tells you how to check your iPhone for pixel problems by adjusting your iPhone display brightness.

I'm all man. And yes, I should have cleaned the screen a bit more, in hindsight. Please don't steal my identity.

my iPhone screen sparkles, i dont know if its alot of dead pixels or if its the touch interface. can you all just do me a favor and turn your brightness way up and just lok at the screen to see if anything is being reflescted off the backlight?
i took it to a genius in my apple store and he was very rude to me. he told me that he didnt see anything and kept on saying "i have no idea what you are talking about". i was very suprised, he left and a tecnition came out and admitted that he noticed the "white spots" all over my screen but wasnt willing to do anything. I think that being a kid has to do with it. im going to see if one of my families friends will take it in for me, shes very good at this kind of stuff. i showed it to her the other day and she also saw them.
but before i go back can you guys please help me out?

You guys got me all worked up, but after pretty thoroughly inspecting mine, I'm pretty sure that I have 0 dead/stuck pixels, none that I can see with my naked eye anyway...

You guys should look a bit closer, in all cases that I have seen the apparent stuck pixels are actually dust particles that appear around a pixel in size. HOWEVER, if you turn the screen off and you can still see the imperfection then it's definitely dust introduced in the manufacturing process. You can only see stuck pixels when the display is powered on.
I am on my 4th iPhone. My first one wouldn't charge via the supplied USB charger but it charged when attached to my MacBook Pro (it's display was perfect). When I went to my local apple store they were happy to replace my device after verifying my findings. They swapped my SIM card (which you do by popping it out of the top of the phone with a paper clip) and I headed back to work. After I got it back I noticed a speck of dust in the upper left corner where you arguably look the most. So I took it in and they were actually very easy going about replacing it (that makes it my 3rd iPhone) but when I inspected this one it also had a speck of dust in the lower right corner. It would have been easier to live with but my original phone didn't have a screen problem and I didn't want to have my replacement have one so I asked if I could exchange that one too. The Genius got his manager and the manager saw the problem too. After trying to clean it with some iKlear he said it was definitely an internal flaw. He however said that this (my 4th iPhone) was the last exchange he could do for this problem since if this next one had the problem they most likely would all have the problem and so that I "couldn't go through their whole stock". Which is pretty reasonable from his perspective but damn I paid $630 for this device I don't want problems that my eyes are always drawn to on a tiny screen. LUCKILY the 4th one's screen was perfect and it charges via USB brick too (though not fully the first time until I shut it completely off and let it sit for 30 more minutes). Both the dust and USB charging problems are documented in the apple support forums. If your phone won't charge fully (they usually sit at like 93% shut it down by holding the sleep/power button for like 5 seconds and following the screen prompt, after letting it sit shut down and plugged in mine fully charged)
I'm an Apple fanboy I have spend probably $10k on hardware from them in the last 3-4 years but they have always had issues with quality control in my opinion. Luckily I've always been able to get a good product eventually, even if it takes some effort on my part. If the Apple store you go to won't exchange your iPhone try another one, at this point it seems up to the discretion of the manager of each store. Gook Luck!

I've had three iPhones now.
The first one I bought Friday the 29th had some issues with the case. It was loose and creaky and for a $600 phone, that was a load of crap. Sunday the 1st I made a Genius Bar appointment The guy at the Apple Store didn't want to replace it without a restocking fee initially, but when the other Apple Store employees I had spoken with while waiting for my Genius Bar appointment came over and showed him theirs were solid, he relented.
The second one was a disappointment due to two stuck pixels (green) on the display. They were pretty prominent, and I was really pissed. So I made another Genius Bar appointment for Monday the 2nd, and thankfully the guy was super easy, he apologized, went in the back, and grabbed another brand new 8GB phone for me.
The third one is working fine so far.

Looks like I have one stuck pixel, near the middle. But it's tough to see except against pure black, and even then, the DPI is so high on this thing, I'm not sure it will bother me.
Of course, now that I've seen it, it might drive me nuts, we'll see...

Yeah, I had a stuck pixel and took it into the Apple Store in Shadyside in Pittsburgh. Got a replacement in 20 minutes. Sweet.

I am on my 3rd iPhone. The first one had two stuck green pixels that really bugged me. Although they are very tiny and not all that visible, it was hard not to notice them once you knew they were there. My 2nd iPhone was way, way worse. It had stuck pixels all over the screen. The "Genius" said that he was permitted to switch it out since I was within my 14 days. My 3rd iPhone is pretty good. It has one stuck pixel that I can live with. However, the screen colors appear *slightly* more muted than the other phones. I may be crazy, but they don't look quite as vibrant. I guess it is something I can live with.

corpirate - I can see mine during normal use.
I found about 8 stuck pixels Wednesday (my 1st iPhone) and I received a new iPhone (my 2nd) this morning (after a good hour of waiting- UGH!).
I should have checked it in the store, because I opened a new page in safari just a few minutes ago and I could see two dead pixels. These are a nice black color. My 1st iPhone's dead pixels were green and red, not nearly as noticeable compared to the black ones.
Since I bought it on launch day, this is my last day to return. It looks like I'll have to try for a 3rd iPhone and check it out in the store. Hopefully it will end at the 3rd and not continue on to the 4th, 5th, 6th...
What I'm concerned about is whether or not all of the iPhones are going to have dead pixels. Also, will I be able to keep getting a new iPhone until it is not defective.

Make sure if you do have a dead/stuck pixel that you get your iPhone back to Apple within 14 days of purchase or else they won't replace it, they'll send it off to be repaired. They told me 3-5 day turn-around but I don't believe it. :)

I recently noticed a pixel problem with my new Iphone. I also agree that it is only one pixel, but at 600 dollars, I want a phone that works for more than ten days without problems. Took it to the local Apple store spent a few minutes with the genius and he agreed with the problem and exchanged it without any issues. It was within the fourteen days of purchase. They activited the new phone and I just brought it home and plugged it into my Mac and all my information is back. Apple service continues to be great and very responsive.

Ugh...just returned my first iphone because of the common battery issues hoping to get one that's perfect. Now I have a phone (my second) that not only doesn't charge, but also has a dead pixel right next to the time display up top. Would've been fine had I not noticed it...now its gonna drive me nuts. Off to the Apple store tomorrow to do another exchange...hopefully for a perfect phone this time.
