70% of Zune users plan to switch to iPhone
I'm a little skeptical about this one (who is the Eagle Research Group, and why are they polling people about iPhones and Zunes?) but a new study from the ERG says that a whopping 70% of Zune users are actually planning a switch to the iPhone. And perhaps even more revealing, 36% of Zune users say they never would have bought one if they'd have known Apple would produce something as "ground-breaking" as the iPhone (well, duh).Of course it's not news that the Zune sucks, and it's definitely not news that the iPhone is a revolutionary little device. But it's an interesting idea that while the Zune has been fighting to stay alive ever since introduction, it might be the iPhone that actually puts it out of its misery.
The social hasn't been quelled yet, though. Of the Zune users keeping their phone, 43% say the reason they don't want an iPhone was the lack of storage space for music (which is kind of an obvious conclusion when you're comparing a phone and a music player, innit?). And 22% of those sticking to the Zune say the reason for doing so was simply an overall dislike of "all things Apple."

I own a Zune and like it. I prefer the controls over the iPod. But I just bought an IPhone. I will still use my Zune in the winter when I don't mind carrying both a phone and a media player. 8GB is nothing. Still, I'm loving my iPhone. The web browsing is great for a phone.
My only gripe with the Zune is that it doesn't do podcasts. I don't like manually removing podcasts I've listened to. It has a much better texture than the Apple products, which feel slippery.

#23 jbelkin - you know you are wrong. You just feel the need to trash something because it isn't an Apple product. Nobody trashes other companies faults only MS faults. Those are the people that just want to talk trash because they are in the "fanboy" category.
Didnt they recently say they sold over a million and it's been 8 months?

It looks like the iPod maybe hit about the same (over 4 quarters) on the first gen also. Shocking!
I am pretty sure the wifi thing is not being used much, I can point out that. However if you want to say the iphone is better? Yes, maybe because YOU CAN USE IT AS A PHONE! Duh. As a media player? Mmmm I can't say its much better. Does it look sexier than a Zune sure does. But as a first gen (which is what everyone bases the Zune on) it sucks.
The iPhone sucks. You have to connect a cable up to the phone to sync your blue tooth headset. It does not have much space for mp3s. It is having kernel panics. What phone has kernel panics? LOL
Great product.
Sound familiar? That is what Apple fans (mostly) say about the Zune. Yes, it has problems but give it a break. Yes the brown color is a bit off, but its not bad. You know what though, that brown stands out. Sounds like a marketing gimmick, something like WHITE on everything.
You wont ever convince everyone that Zune's sucks. And I wont ever convince everyone that the iPhone sucks.
Enjoy.
Let's see, a million shipped, maybe 200,000 sold, that means they really only needed to ask about 50 people to get a proper sampling - and if you spent $300 to wander about with an mp3 player held out like a diving rod hoping to find another zune owner, why wouldn't you spend another couple hundred to buy an iphone that has more users in 24 hours than the Zune after 10 months?

Ok, after re-reading that I sounded way out of line. I still feel a little that way, but lol I hope it did not sound TO far out! :)
I dunno if I buy this study... remember when the Zune was first announced and a "study" said that something like 70% of iPod users were planning on switching to the Zune? Just look at how accurate THAT study turned out to be.
;)
My Zune SMOKES the iPod. Clean and simply.
It has a great interface, very nice feel to the buttons and a nice screen. Yes I admit the screen is only stretched but I have not seen any distortion in videos.
I have a MBP 17" and I also have an iPod. But I bought the Zune because I found them to be sexy. Not "the popular thing to buy". For the fanbois out there, F off. You compare a first gen device to a (what) 8th gen device?
I love my MacBook Pro pro and I love my Zune. I also love using my Zune on my MBP (even though it did take some work). MS plans to release official software for the Mac.
"It isn't Apple so it must suck" mentality is what makes people hate Apple users. I will always be the evil voice of an Apple user because I think having a 100% biased opinion of any subject is plain ignorant!
By my calculation, 70% of zero is zero.
