70% of Zune users plan to switch to iPhone
I'm a little skeptical about this one (who is the Eagle Research Group, and why are they polling people about iPhones and Zunes?) but a new study from the ERG says that a whopping 70% of Zune users are actually planning a switch to the iPhone. And perhaps even more revealing, 36% of Zune users say they never would have bought one if they'd have known Apple would produce something as "ground-breaking" as the iPhone (well, duh).Of course it's not news that the Zune sucks, and it's definitely not news that the iPhone is a revolutionary little device. But it's an interesting idea that while the Zune has been fighting to stay alive ever since introduction, it might be the iPhone that actually puts it out of its misery.
The social hasn't been quelled yet, though. Of the Zune users keeping their phone, 43% say the reason they don't want an iPhone was the lack of storage space for music (which is kind of an obvious conclusion when you're comparing a phone and a music player, innit?). And 22% of those sticking to the Zune say the reason for doing so was simply an overall dislike of "all things Apple."

Maybe it's just me, but should there be a pic of an iPhone instead of an iPod for this article?

With stuff like this being said, I'm not surprised why people think all Apple users are fanboys...

Check out the source article. Has anyone ever heard of AppleTechNews? This is clearly BS. There's no source attributed for this "eagle research group", and last I checked Zunes don't have "contracts" which will be expiring. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be satire; if so, it's not very good satire.

conlan,
the article doesn't say anything about when users zune contracts expire, it says "when their current phone contract expires."

So I guess that will leave 3 people left with a Zune.

The zune is a fine audio player but that is about it. Podcasts with iPod-like capability and even a clock are absent in the Zune. I have yet to find another Zune player to see if the WiFi actually functions.
The Wifi capability was and remains a real sore point with me. The music site is OK but sluggish and its music categories a real hodge podge. Jazz is not easy to find. What was Balmer thinking.
Anyway a new Zune is to be out for the holiday season. I have been burned once. I may not get a iPhone but I will look at an iPod. The Zune is headed for eBay.

Man... if there are that many people who hate everything Apple, can you imagine the thralls that hate everything Microsoft?
3 years ago I was totally against anything Apple because I didn't know better. I bought a Dell DJ and had the worst experience with an mp3 player imaginable. Rhapsody, Napster, RhapsodyToGo, NapsterToGo, Windows Media Player... none of it worked like it was supposed to. Plays for Sure ... my a$$.
So I decided to buy an iPod. With millions in consumers hands, something must have been right.
Now after 15 year of fighting with Microsoft's horrible software, the popups, the dialogs, the errors, the blue screens, the registry, drivers, dll conflicts, omg the list goes on and on... I'm SO tired of the battle. Well, I'm now 100% Apple. I mean come on... it works... it just works.
The ipod, the imac, the iphone... it all just plain works.

what a weird article.
i doubt they plan to switch to the iPhone from their Zune, those 2 products are just not comparable.
they probably meant to say that they want to buy an iPhone in addition of their Zune.
the statement "Zune users say they never would have bought one if they'd have known Apple would produce something as "ground-breaking" as the iPhone" is as realistic as pretending that a Windows user once said "if i had know how striking steve jobs looks in that black turtleneck, i would never have bought a PC"
why buy a Zune if u care, or even understand anything about UI etc..
most people think a good UI is what they know, the agree to get used to the worst, and once they have become an expert at using something that badly designed, they will stick with it, because it's "easy" because it's all they know.
Pizza Hut makes pizza's, a Toyota gets u from A to B, Windows is an operating system, Zune's play music.

@conlan, yes Zune users can get contracts, they enable them to own music for a period of time.
P.S, i did not read the article, because it's almost 8 Am here, time to sleeeheeep :D

What do you mean "switching?" Usually when people switch, they switch from one thing to another that both perform the same basic tasks or are comparable on some platform.
80% of car drives say they will switch to bananas!
Who cares?

You're all sheep. Baaaaah.
I'm very happy and content with both my Zune and iPod, thank you very much. Where does it say I can't enjoy both? They both have their pros and cons. I cannot, though, use my full music collection with iTunes, because it's just too damned slow on Windows. The Zune software works fine, though. So there you go.

I think the reason they are saying that they would prefer an iPhone rather than an iPod is because the iPhone kind of kills the only advantages the Zune had over the iPod (larger screen, WiFi).

Yeah... I call shenanigans
Now, I'm partial to Zune myself... if there was a need for MS to make a Mac version of the Zune Player. But Then that's simply because I'm no fan of iPod or iTunes. I want me a Subscription music service, and iTunes doesn't give me that.
But comparing a Zune to an iPhone is like comparing an iPod to my Wing.

Ok... I have an iPhone. I realize Apple billed it as getting the real web on the device. But come on people. Lets be realistic. The display, as beautiful as it is, still does not compare to my 24" LCD. I'm not expecting the same experience from them. And web sites designed for mobile devices look even better on the iPhone. I'm all for websites that are designed specifically for the iPhone.

My Zune SMOKES the iPod. Clean and simply.
It has a great interface, very nice feel to the buttons and a nice screen. Yes I admit the screen is only stretched but I have not seen any distortion in videos.
I have a MBP 17" and I also have an iPod. But I bought the Zune because I found them to be sexy. Not "the popular thing to buy". For the fanbois out there, F off. You compare a first gen device to a (what) 8th gen device?
I love my MacBook Pro pro and I love my Zune. I also love using my Zune on my MBP (even though it did take some work). MS plans to release official software for the Mac.
"It isn't Apple so it must suck" mentality is what makes people hate Apple users. I will always be the evil voice of an Apple user because I think having a 100% biased opinion of any subject is plain ignorant!
