AppleCare for iPhone available for $69
A while back we mentioned the release of details on AppleCare for the iPhone, and now the extended warranty package from Apple has finally arrived. AppleCare for iPhone extends "hardware repair coverage" an additional year (making two years total). It also covers the iPhone Bluetooth headset if you have one. Although no mention is made of it on the AppleCare for iPhone page, the terms we reported before (loaner for $29, etc.) presumably still apply.AppleCare for iPhone is available now for $69 from the Apple Store.

This is interesting. It says 2 years from date of purchase. According to apple's page, you already have 1 year standard on the iPhone. So basically the $69 is really for an extended extra year than really 2 years. You have to buy the warranty during the original year, and there is no way to get any warranty currently to last anything past 2 years from the original purchase date.

I really think if you're going to pay for Applecare they should not STILL charge you for a loaner.

#2: are you new to Apple? This is their MO.
#4: good luck with that. If you think the AppleCare service will give you headaches, you ain't seen nothing yet. At least your guarantor is actually the company that made the product. AppleCare is worth every penny.
I'm just glad they're covering the headset. I'm surprised there's no language in there that says anything about purchasing them together. I can't imagine they'd be praised if they had, since the products weren't released together.

Doesn't include accidental damage, i.e. if you drop your iPhone. Just extends warranty.

Cellphones normally automatically disintegrate after 2 years, not after 1 year :-)

I don't know why people are expecting accidental damage coverage. This is something Apple has never offered.

@ Jon,
Probably becuase this is a phone, and not a computer...I mean, say with my macbook, It's on a table all the time with a magsafe power adapter, it's pretty safe from accidental damage. An iPhone though, well, i've had in my pocket, out of my pocket, on a clip, the chances of just one tiny fall are much greater.
And one drop, well, better be holding your breath...because if there is anything wrong, you are SOL...
BTW, my home insurance wouldn't cover the phone.

#9: But surely the same would apply for an iPod and they don't offer accidental damage for that.

First you spend 600 bucks on a phone and even more now for Apple Care? Hah! Apple has their hands firmly wrapped around your cojones!

Why would you want to pay $69 for a warranty they are already required to provide by law ?
Could be that the law is different in the US, but the strange thing is that Apple still tries to sell AppleCare in e.g. the Netherlands where they are required by law to give you that kind of warranty for free anyway.

No thanks ... I just bought a "personal article" policy from my insurance company for $40 a year that also covers theft and accidently dropping or otherwise destroying the phone. I've got a year of hardware coverage from Apple anyway so I feel pretty comfortable.

@10
We're talking about a device that costs twice as much (or up to three, depending on make/model of ipod and iphone)...
The hit would suck for a broken iPod, but it would still be a heck of a lot cheaper (and more manageable) to get a new ipod over the iphone.
