3rd Party iPhone Apps Roundup
The 3rd Party iPhone applications are starting to roll in. Here's TUAW's list of currently available packages. I'll update this list as more apps become available and we hear back from more developers.
Hello World. Hello World Demo
KBDemo. Proof of concept Keyboard demo. Part of the larger Mobile Terminal for iPhone project.
Do Shell. Runs shell script embedded in App. Can be customized by end user.
iDecor. App version of the javascriptlet we posted about here. Sets your iPhone wallpaper based off an image left up on Safari.
TextViewDemo. Allen aka Pin's excellent UITextView sample.

I wish that TUAW would make a different section for the iPhone and all of the ever-increasing amount of apps which will be available. It has become a BORE to scroll through all of it every day to get through to the now scarce tid-bits of Mac computer information. I am spending less and less time on this site because it has become so tedious.

For the Love of God there really Isnt any other apple news besides the iPhone..its HUGE news...and its bringing more and more attention to apple...this is a good thing.
Till Leopard comes out there probably wont be much else by way of apple news sadly, and being and iPhone owner I welcome more iPhone news.

Dedicated feeds for Mac(Apple Computer items) and iphone/ipod/Apple TV(Apple Consumer items) are sorely needed.

Angela, can I suggest that you configure your RSS reader to show only the headlines, without an accompanying synopsis, because then you'll only have to pick out the non-iPhone stories and won't have to scroll through anything? Or if you're not using an RSS reader, can I suggest that you do?
It seems to me to be back-to-front to ask that iPhone stories (or any category) be quarantined to a special sub-section. The main TUAW ought to have all Apple stories, instead of most readers being forced to separately read through TUAW-General, TUAW-Rumours, TUAW-Leopard, TUAW-Apps, TUAW-iPod and TUAW-iPhone pages.
That would imply that it is most common for readers to only want to read one section. It is actually the case, though, that it is most common for a reader to want to avoid one section and read the others, not read one and avoid the others.
So it really only makes sense for special sub-sections of TUAW to exclude a specific category, while the main page remains the complete TUAW. Although it might work out better for you the other way around, that comes at the cost of forcing most readers to do more work to see all the stories.
It's unfair to ask those people who are interested in this particular Apple product to be the ones to do extra work, when avoiding iPhone stories should be a natural consequence of your blog-reading workflow (i.e. use an RSS reader and don't click on the iPhone stories).
And in any case -
mikull, as far as I can tell the Yahoo! Pipes feed that Erica set up is still working to provide an iPhone-less feed. Hit the "Read" link on the accompanying article - http://www.tuaw.com/2007/06/22/iphone-free-tuaw-feed/ - and then hit the "Subscribe" link on the resulting Yahoo page.

The problem with just "not clicking on the iPhone stories" is that it takes up most of the main page feeds; hence, there are fewer items of interest to click on because of the limited number of front-page entries. When using the reader today, there are 10/20 entries specifically related to the iPhone. That means half the stories have absolutely no relevance to using a Mac computer.

But they do have relevance to an Apple product - this weblog isn't just about Macs.
You say, "fewer items of interest" when you ought to say, "fewer items of interest to me". iPhone stories are of interest to other people, and as such, they are as deserving of appearing here, as those stories which are of interest to you (but perhaps not to other people).
There is no real problem or issue with iPhone stories "taking up room" or anything like that - is it really that hard to load page two? Is it really that hard to use a real RSS reader which you can configure to show more than 10 headlines at once? Is it really that hard to use the Yahoo! Pipes iPhone-less feed that Erica set up?
I reiterate that it is far easier, and only really makes sense, for the readers to individually decide upon the selection of articles they read, rather than for TUAW to split itself into sub-sections or proscribe mention of certain products entirely.
I do not understand why you'd complain about the 10 iPhone stories instead of being appreciative of the 10 non-iPhone stories. By what standards does that number get judged as being not enough?

Erica -
I'm working with your doshell.app and unable to create 2 instances of the program regardless of name & info.plist changes.
Any help would be...well...helpful.
thanks,
Greg
