Apple press event on August 7th
Rumors abound that Apple will be unleashing a brand new iMac on August 7th, which seems a little odd given that is very close to the beginning of the school year. However, given the existence of these photos of a purported new iMac keyboard and the fact that our sister blog Engadget was just invited to a press event on August 7th might prove me wrong. The invite made it clear that this gathering is all about the Mac, so what do you think we'll see?

Ultra portable Mac, and a new iMac, maybe even a re-designed Mac Mini?

This is exciting! We're about to open up a new office and have been anticipating purchasing two new iMacs. Can't wait to set them up!

I bet we will see that Leopard will be shipping with these iMacs. I wouldn't be surprised if Leopard shipped before October.

My bet is on a new iMac, a new iPod since they lowered the price of the iPod recently and maybe even a refresh Mac Mini and lighter notebook of some sort. Will Leopard ship on them who knows. would be nice... I'm also holding out for a new iWork suite its been way too long a wait.
Exciting! I'm really hoping for a new iPod with touchable wide screen...

On August 6, my prayers will be for...
1) Steve to come and personally deliver an unlocked iPhone to me in Hong Kong
2) Failing 1, an ipod which is basically the iphone without the phone (ipod, touchscreen, wifi browser etc). Can't see this happening sadly.
3) New iLife announcement; details of what will be accompanying Leopard.

I was at the apple store (Tokyo) the other day. Staff said they were low on stock of MacBook pros. Isn't that one of the typical product update cues cited by the rumor folks. adding to it here....

Hopefully it will be a new Mac mini or a new model to replace it. It was last August when the mini was last updated (I know because my brother-in-law bought his 2 weeks before the mini went all Core Duo). Seems a bit long for such an important product for switchers. iWork/iLife is a possibility or more likely at Macworld Expo. Of course a completely redesigned iMac is certainly needed.

1. New iMacs.
2. Mac mini replacement (or greatly designed, altho I don't know how that's possible/desirable)
3. Sub-notebook Mac.
4. Leopard details.
The first two shipping immediately. The Sub-notebook shipping in time for the college kiddies to use at the start of the semester. No firm date for Leopard's October release.

I think Leopard will be released on the last day of October. That's normally what Apple mean when they name a specific month. So don't expect it this month.
AppleInsider said that one of their "industry sources" said that new iPods would be released in August. To be honest though, so many of Apple's products are in need of a refresh (iPod, iMac, Mac Mini, Cinema Displays, etc) that it could be anything.

Engadget gets an invite, yet TUAW doesn't? That's hilarious.

Most probably new iMacs. The MacBook Pros were just recently updated (a couple of weeks ago) so I don't get why some are predicting yet another update. Leopard will certainly not be out before October.

iMac has been neglected for a long time. I'd like to have a new generation iMac with Leopard by October.

I cant wait for this, i've been putting off getting an iMac since the first August 7th rumour came about. I also think Apple might axe the Mini if its purely a "Mac products" press conference, to be honest, they suck and have sold terribly. It would be amazing if Apple introduced a mid-range dekstop, because not everyone wants to have a built in screen. New iMac's are good news for me though, i can finally get rid of this G3!

I just want Leopard so I can buy a macbook before I go to uni in October. I can't live for a month without a computer until the end of October! But I'm also not buying a product with an end of life OS...
