Apple posts two new iPhone ads

Thanks to TUAW readers participating in tonight's TUAW TalkShoe chatcast, we found out about two new iPhone ads Apple has posted to their site. Both ads bring a new perspective to the iPod's appeal, focusing on how much it allows you to carry - or stop carrying - in your pocket. The first, titled Instead, informs viewers that they can simply carry an iPod in their phone, instead of an iPod and their phone. The second ad, titled Amazing, expands on the idea of how much you can carry: your favorite music, all your email, today's newspaper and - of course - a phone. The ads are both well done and, I think, speak a bit more clearly to the potential of owning an iPhone. Having all that stuff in one sexy little device that effortlessly syncs with one app is indeed a wonderful thing, and I bet these new ads might strike a stronger chord with consumers still on the fence about buying one to replace their other gadgets.

Has anyone else noticed that the ringtone they use in these commercials is NOT on the iPhone? I mean, granted, it's not the best sound, but certainly appropriate for someone who might want their phone to sound like a phone (besides the "Old Phone" ringer). Not that I'm complaining, I happen to be very happy with Marimba. I just find it sort of odd that they always use that sound in these commercials.

When someone calls your phone, does it look like the iphone commercial? The home/mobile appears left justified and the picture is a little square - mine doesn't look like that.

To-Do List Sync. Text File Folder Syncs.
I mean, even my Nano does that.

The idea of showing the iPhone being used for the TV ads is so simple, so effective, it is brilliant.
I now look at other cell phone TV ads and wonder how come they are not showing the phone in action.

#5: I haven't bothered to test it out and track this down yet, but I think you might be half right. I remember seeing various ways the iPhone presents the caller and picture too, but I think it might be something like you get one UI when you're already doing something on the phone, and another if, say, the screen has been locked. I'm not sure yet.
It's also entirely possible that these commercials were made far out enough from the iPhone's actual launch that Apple changed the UI at the last minute.

#1: I did get the tip and honestly I haven't tried it out yet. The only bluetooth headset I have is going on the fritz and I'm waiting for a new one I bought to arrive. I think I'll forward it off to the team to see if someone else can beat me to writing it up with a working headset.

#1: Earle, scratch that. I just got inspired to try again and got it to work! This is pretty surprising, because I thought audio could only be passed to a headset like this if it supported some specific new protocol. Thanks for the tip! WRiting it up right now.

Hi #5, I had the exact same question, I even called the Support guys and the genius bar, and they didn't have a clue!, later I ran into a friend taht works in an apple store and he figured that the difference is where do you assign the pic to the Contact, if you do it in the iPhone when you get the contact the pic is shown as a background, filling the whole screen; now, if you assign the pic in address book (or outlook I assume) it will show exactly like in the ad! It bothered me so bad for a couple of week, now that I know how to do it I rather use the one that fills the whole screen
Cheers

Dear Apple:
What a lovely idea, this suggestion that instead of an iPod and a phone I just carry an iPhone. Beautiful, the simplicity.
Except that you didn't make the iPhone compatible with your Nike+ device.
Which means that I now carry an iPod and an iPhone when I go out exercising.
Oops.
Love, Gene

Isn't the iPhone only betwixt 4GB & 8GB? Since this is the case, how do they figure I can use it to replace something that holds upwards of 80GB? Color me confused as having a snippet of your media is in no way the same as having your media. So Apple, give me a call when you have a iPhone with adequate storage.

Taking about carrying things in your iPhone… when I get an iPhone (if they every reach Australia!) I'm going to scan in all the barcoded loyalty cards in my wallet. I bet they'd scan straight from the iPhone's screen without any problem.
