We heard a rumor not long ago, and today Engadget confirms the date: Apple will hold a special press event on Sept. 5th. The invitation they received (where's ours, Apple?!?) looks like coverflow as displayed by an iPhone. Hmmm...The invite is as cryptic as always, so I guess it's up to us to provide wild and baseless conjecture. Let's get started.
See you then, folks.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

An iPod is shown, and it's referring to music. I think obviously these are the new iPods, probably among other things.

"The Beat Goes On" clearly refers to Sonny and Cher, who will now be on iTunes.
Anybody, anybody? I didn't think so.
Anyhow, I find it amusing how these announcements bring out the worst of the fanboy/antifanboy arguments on the tech blog sites. People don't know how to ignore it without spouting off, and then others get hostile. It's a bad cycle, unfortunately.
My hope is for multitouch iPods, 120GB, and please god no recessed headphone jack. If it has these features, I'd buy one that day, guaranteed.
Another thing that I want (that is more unrealistic) is for Apple to host a database of high resolution album art, even for artists that iTunes does NOT have (The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, etc etc). I have a lot of searching to do if a cover flow iPod does come out.

The forthcoming Madonna single is also called 'The Beat Goes On'.
Coincidence or something more sinister. You be the judge!

While there seems to be no basis in even the remotest bit of conjecture, I, personally, would like to see a Mac Home Server OS release. What would that have?
1) Common iTunes database
2) Common iPhoto database
3) you get the picture.

If "The Beat Goes On" is the newest title for Madonna's newest song, then I think she will be only be releasing on iTunes. Recently there has been talk of here leaving her current label http://www.nme.com/news/madonna/30517
Whenever I heard she might I figured she would be going to Apple.

Everybody's hyped up on thinking it will be an iPod event.... let's think outside the box and I'll predict a surprise early Leopard release, with iPods as a secondary to the announcement.

Cryptic?
The picture shows an iPod. The slogan refers to music. I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark here and say...
"They're releasing a 16 core Mac Pro!"
In the words of the immortal Inigo "You killed my father, prepare to die" Montoya, I do not think that word means what you think it means.
