TUAW Poll: Will you purchase iTunes ringtones?

iTunes ringtones officially became available in the US iTunes store late last night (or early this morning, depending on where you live). It looks like fun, but will cost you another buck. Considering that you can make your own (until Apple breaks this routine again), we're wondering: Will you buy iTunes ringtones?

Take our informal poll and check back tomorrow for the results.

No. I don't support pigs...I EAT them.
Apple is a pig.

I may never buy another Apple product again...
they really are the best, but their attitude stinks, they are actually making Microsoft look appealing again.

People are looking at this the wrong way. To buy a ringtone for another phone, it costs $2.49. For the iPhone, it only costs $1.98 and you get to choose exactly which clip you want as your ringtone. Why do you people feel so entilted to free ringtones? Even if you already have the song legally it just costs $1.98 for ringtones... how is there a problem with that? Stop being so cheap!

I think people forget the other reason for wanting to add a ringtone: Alarms

Unlike Apple's iPods, the iPhone doesn't let you choose to use a song (via playlist) from your music library as an alarm - it only allows ringtones. I blame AT&T for this since only iPhone has this restriction.

Every time I hear a ring tone in public, It makes me want to punch that phone owner up. The idea of apple selling them is just horrific. I don't care how easy it is to purchase or how much money Apple makes for it's shareholders as a result. Bring back Apple Computer.

I like the idea for a few of my electronic songs that i think the instruments sound good in(not obnoxious), But none of my 1,023 Dance Songs work!!!! And they have all been purchased!!!! I love the iPhone but really freaking hate this ring-tone deal. C'mon Steve you could do better.

I don't have an iPhone (don't want one) but if I did I would buy/use as many ringtones from iTunes as I have on every other phone I've ever owned.

Zero!

Ringtones are the most obnoxious thing ever invented. Great, so you like 50 cent. I'm happy for you. Now answer your damn phone and get away from me.

I don't plan to buy ringtones, even if they DO shut down the ability to roll your own. I'm enjoying that while it lasts, but I have no more desire to pay again to make a ringtone, than to pay for the spit that's already in my mouth. Charging for ringtones is a concept that disgusts me.

Yeah, no iPhone - but considering the fact that I've been making my own MP3 ringtones for oh, I don't know - FOUR YEARS - the chances of me paying $.99 for the privilege are pretty slim. I mean, who knows - if I was bored enough and surfing the iTunes store on my non-existent iPhone, I might drop a buck to get a ringtone...but I would have t be pretty bored.

Apple's not evil for doing this - but they aren't saintly either. I mean, this is a very, very well established marketplace (ringtone sales) and while I understand their need to get in on it, I think that preventing people from using files they have already purchased to make ringtones is pretty messed up. It's not like they don't still have the provisions in place to limit how many devices said ringtone would work on or that they couldn't limit the customer to being allowed to make one ringtone per song.
