Coming in iPhone 1.1.1. probably

Eagle-eyed reader Travis (thanks!) went over Engadget's photos of the O2 iPhone announced yesterday morning, and sussed out every little feature and update he saw on their iPhones that current owners don't have. We can only believe that the iPhones shown must have already been updated to 1.1.1, and that US iPhones, via Software Update, will receive these features soon.
  • Now Playing controls everywhere!
  • Double clicking the home screen goes to Favorites or iPod, similar to what the iPod touch can do now.
  • The iTunes WiFi Store (well duh)
  • Closed captioning, and the already leaked support for Video Out.
  • New Calculator icon-- to match the iPod touch as well
  • International keyboards
  • Network setup with VPN support and EDGE disabling
  • A "Carrier" menu, but your guess is as good as ours on that one. This could simply be a European thing, as their rules may not match American regulations. I really don't think AT&T would like to see Apple give the ability to unlock iPhones from their service in the next major software update.
Not listed: the disabling of ringtones, and a rollback of all the open source hacks so far. Ha, I'm kidding! Ok, maybe only about 50% kidding. Otherwise, looks like a nice update.

Some pages are reporting that 1.1.1 has some search feature (http://personafile.com/Apple-iPhone-8GB-P885909100178.htm). Atleast for contacts. Is this true?

i love how everyone's been complaining about chat. use meebo, for crap's sake. and you're not limited to AOL's terrible service. it's free, it works great on the iphone, and it won't use up texts.

mms = use e-mail instead.

stop complaining. you bought the iphone for what it had, not what it didn't have.

What about Voice Dialing (dialing from a BT headset without looking at the phone - That would be very good come Jan '08, in the USA, since anyone that is seen with a phone in their hand while driving is likely to be pulled over until the police officer is assured that they are not talking without a headset...

"Where the he*l are multi-thread SMS, MMS, and most of all iChat???"

Whereabouts in the iPhone marketing materials were these promised?

Ok, false alarm. I misinterpreted what the phone favorites were.

Apple is incredibly stupid if it won't let me use the double-click to get to the phone function!

Re: Carrier menu: It has been in from the beginning and you don't need to have an unlocked phone, it appears whenever you leave the US.

Richard Stovall: That menu is a much-needed feature because first you must go to the home menu and have it load, then go to ipod, this let's you stay with what you are doing.

Guys,
I have unlocked my iphone and unless i'm tripping on some crazy nerdy drug, the iphone already has a carrier menu.
I'm in france now, and i can choose from BouygesTel, SFR or Orange with a breeze, and before in the UK i was switching between 02 and some others easily. It's in the Phone preferences, and appeared when I unlocked.
My sim is an australian Telstra sim and am running the 1.0.2 firmware.

You guys should have checked.

The purple icon is the iTunes icon for buying songs and downloading via wifi on the go.

The quick access to the iPod controls is something you can do by double-clicking on the home button. This will bring up the quick controls without having to go into the iPod part. So the phone is still locked but the touch controls are active for a short time. I can see this as beneficial to have the phone locked but controls still accessible while listening to music or watching a movie. I have held my iPhone while watching a video and accidentally bring up the stupid controls. Now I can get them only when I double click.

Savvy?
