iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store: 2 quick notes
My pristine, non-hacked iPhone (I can just sense Erica rolling her eyes at the lack of cool stuff on my iPhone) updated to the 1.1.1 firmware without a hitch. Much like our very own Dave Caolo I quickly purchased an album using the iTunes Wi-Fi Store (this album, for those curious) and I found the experience to be quite pleasant indeed (I wonder when Amazon will have an iPhone version of Amazon MP3? Probably not any time soon, sadly). Here are two quick notes that will answer a few questions folks have asked me:
- You can buy iTunes Plus tracks via the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, though iTunes Plus has to be turned on in your iTunes account.
- If you have iTunes credits (from a gift card, or iTunes card) they will be applied to your purchase, but the iTunes Wi-Fi Store UI doesn't reflect that (I had 5 bucks left on the $25 iTunes card I bought with a portion of my $100 credit. The Wi-Fi store showed the full cost of the album I bought, but my emailed receipt reflected the 5 dollar credit).

I didn't find it to be the case, but does the wifi store allow you to complete your album, the way it does in iTunes?

It was very user friendly - but to pick on your Amazon comment. I went to buy the new Spoon off the WiFi store... but just to check, I went on Amazon, found it a buck cheaper + DRM free, so I bought it there instead, it synced fast, and I ended up with DRM free stuff on ye iphone.
Quick tip too: Make a smart playlist in itunes with 'Amazon.com' in the comments, and you'll be able to keep track of those purchases.

To answer the author's musing question, there would be an Amazon mp3 app developed and released in short time if 3rd party apps were able to be used.

yacoub, that's why I asked the question. :)

Yup, I had hoped it would reflect my pre-paid credits. This is how I keep myself from going crazy buying stuff! It's so easy to spend $100 when you are just saying (to yourself, in your head of course) "oooh I've wanted this album" *click*. Then you totally forget about it and grab yet another and another. Having the balance of self-bought gift cards show up in iTunes to remind you how much you are spending is SUCH a good thing for people like me! :)

I had a terrible experience with the iPhone/iTunes store. I purchased a song, and it appeared to download, but then I got an error message saying it couldn't be downloaded and that I should download it on my computer. This I did, but after I created a playlist and checked it for manual syncing, it wiped out all but one playlist. Now the only way I can get music on my iPhone is to let iTunes select the music. It would seem there are bugs to be fixed. (No mods or unlock; generic iPhone)

I bought a track off of iTunes on my iPhone and then went to my computer and it would not allow me to do the complete my album option.

Yeah, too bad Erica killed Apple's trust in how the 3rd party apps would be used.

My iPhone is pretty darn full... anyone know what happens if you purchase an album, but don't have the space on your iPhone to download it all?
Just curious... but not enough to buy an album. :)
