iPhone activation down
Just get a new iPhone today? Or need to re-activate your existing iPhone? Looks like you'll need to wait awhile. iPhone activation is down, and Apple is telling people to wait until tomorrow to activate their phones.Could this be related to today's earlier Store/iTunes outage? Only Apple knows for sure.
While you wait to activate your iPhone, why not check out our iPhone page to find out all the cool stuff you could be doing with your iPhone.. if you could activate it.
Thanks, Colin!

I reported this to erica yesterday and sent a screenshot, I still haven't figured out why you say "thanks colin" when there is NO PLACE WHATSOEVER to submit stories! GOT NEWS? GOOD, GO REPORT IT ELSEWHERE.
Activation was up this morning and AT&T said last night the reason it was down is they were working on iTunes. So this news is actually wrong, iPhone Activation Down (last night), Scott's post delayed (tonight).

I just found it after another more in depth search. "Send us news tips" is very tiny in an inconspicuous location, please move it elsewhere like right under the comment area or in the footer.

@Tom: Actually, we were trying to activate an iPhone tonight, called Apple support because we couldn't, and this post was as a result of that. Verbatim: "Our activation servers are down again." This is also backed up based on numerous reports we've seen throughout the Web.
I was unaware that this has been an ongoing issue, but the fact remains: Activation of iPhone via iTunes has been down for several hours tonight (Oct. 3).

@Tom - search any TUAW page for the text "send us news tips" and you ought to find yourself looking at a link. You can also "contact us" (by which I mean, them), report "corrections" and "problems", and should you wish, "advertise". It's all under the Resources section under the category list, to the right.

Errr .... and now I see that you saw it already and have to work out how I didn't see that you saw. Sorry.

I noticed that the iTS was stalling today. Couldn't remove items from the cart for 30 minutes, and because of that, I got the free American Dad episode 3 times.
And lately, the season passes are going out too late, too.
Is something wrong in Apple Land?

VanillaSpice: Yeah well, I couldn't have found it unless you said where to look. "Contact us" and "Send us news tips" should really be put as big links near the logotype or something. Weblogs Inc is really user unfriendly

@Tom,
I had the same issue with finding that little bitty link.
I posted on a message and then got a personal email from one of the TUAW guys. As a web designer, focusing on User experience, I can vouch that it's difficult to see/find, but after you find it once, you book mark it!

Could this be an upgrade to get business accounts to work with the iPhone?

Hmm.. I suspect a number of hackers are pissed off at Apple after Apple locked down the iPhone. Apple might as well painted a big red sign on its corporate headquarters saying "Come and get me"...
I would not be surprised that the hackers are launching Denial of Service Attacks (DOS) against the iPhone activation server and the Apple store. But we may never know since companies rarely admit that a DOS attack was launched against it.
Annoying hackers may cost apple more $$ in the long run...

As a matter of "following up": As of about 2am EST the activation service had been "back on" and was working. So waiting until the next day, as the Apple Support person said to do, was unnecessary if you were willing to stay up all night. ;-)

You guys really should get a "NOT iPhone" page, so those that don't give a shit don't have to wade through all the posts about it.
And before you say "if you don't want to read it, skip it", I have. More often than not, of late, the message I skip to is about the iPhone.
