George Harrison solo works now on iTunes
The Beatles are now on iTunes-- kind of. George Harrison has become the last solo Beatle to be added to the iTMS, as iTunes now carries all of his solo work (including "Got My Mind Set on You"-- enjoy having that in your head for the rest of the day). That means that all the Beatles have now had their solo work added to the online store. There's John, Paul, now George, and that other guy. If you want them all, it's gonna take money, a whole lot of precious money. It's gonna take plenty of money, to do it right child. Stuck in your head yet?And yet we still wait (well, most of us do) for the Beatles as a whole to appear on iTunes for purchase. It's become a kind of mythical event, hasn't it? Someday, the heavens will break open, earthquakes will rend the ground under our feet, and the world will end around us, but hopefully not before we can buy the White Album at the ITunes store.
Thanks, Eric!

I wager that they were all set to announce "Beatles now on iTunes! YAY!" at the "Beat Goes On" event last month. I mean, there were certainly enough hints, both in the event itself and even in the title of the event (The Beat Goes On). What probably happened was that there was some niggling little detail that Apple could not quite get worked out in the 11th hour, and they had to put that announcement on hold. But it was already too late to change the scripting/signage of the event, sample music loaded on the demo machines, etc.

I've been waiting for George's music to show up on iTunes and I snagged four of his albums this morning, despite a snag in iTunes that didn't show his catalog when you clicked the big graphic announcing the addition this morning.
It's good music with plenty of bonus material, remastered, and I never had the originals before. There's still an audience for The Beatles and their solo works. I'm just glad it's finally getting out on iTunes for us to buy.

I only came over to read these comments because I wanted to see someone complain that they don't care about the Beatles on iTunes, or that anyone who wants to listen to the Beatles already bought all their stuff, and besides, vinyl is the only way to really listen to the music.

I honestly do not understand the seeming obsession people have with The Beatles on the iTunes Store. If you want them on you iPod go buy the CDs and rip them...

I should have known better than to listen to the preview to Got My Mind Set on You. I think I'll buy This Song Is Just Six Words Long now.

Kevin, it's pretty simple. First, iTunes is less expensive. Second, I just got a lot more bonus content from iTunes than I would from the CD. For example, there are 28 tracks and 1 video on George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" album from iTunes that I wouldn't get on the CD I found at Best Buy last weekend. Also, iTunes makes it easy to find the whole catalog. Most retailers don't carry all the old albums, so you end up having to order them. Finally, I don't want to have yet another set of CD's hanging around on a shelf that I'm never going to use again.
iTunes is the way I want to buy my music, and I get more value for less money. Got it?

William - l do see you logic, however, I do not get waiting YEARS or possibly FOREVER for music that you like when it is available in many other places. Get it?

Even more so, most of the Beatles fans probably already have alot of the CDs or buy the CDs from the used CD store for less.
I think it was Jobs and some of the estates of some of the Beatles that said that it was unlikely to happen until some time in 2008.

I think it's funny that the style of dress on that album cover was ever cool.

I just recently picked up the 1 album, and I am enjoying it on my iPod. I am still old fashioned and buy CDs instead of albums on iTunes. I do buy single songs, but if I want the whole album, I pick it up at the store.

The only problem with all this is that the one song of his that I've been waiting for, the STUDIO VERSION of "Here Comes the Sun", seems to be missing. They have a live version from a concert in Tokyo, but I really don't want that.
I wonder if this is deliberate.

The studio version of "Here Comes the Sun" was a Beatles song, so that's why it's not available (yet!)
The pricing on All Things Must Pass at $9.99 is incredible! This thing was three LPs and the iTunes version comes with a video and extra tracks.
The iTunes Plus pricing really incentivises you to purchase the whole album if you like four or five tracks. I ended up purchasing the full albums of All Things Must Pass and Cloud Nine, plus some additional tracks.
Strange, though, that Harrison's Best of Dark Horse compilation wasn't available. Nonetheless, I'm really happy to see Harrison's stuff on iTunes.
