iPhone 1.1.1 introduces 2 new special folders, possible Nike support

As I continue exploring 1.1.1, I keep running across unexpected changes in the way the iPhone handles certain things I've taken for granted. I was aware that under 1.0.2 that SpringBoard scanned a non-supported /Widgets folder in addition to /Applications. However, two more folders have joined the team in 1.1.1: /AppleInternal/Applications and /Accessories.
I am in pure speculation territory, but perhaps the Accessories folder will relate to those com.apple.mobile.radio and com.apple.mobile.nike references I found in LingoToAccessoryMap.plist.

/AppleInternal/Applications will be where apps live that aren't ready for prime-time yetâputting them in a different directory tree reduces the risk of contaminating the releases, plus AFAIK /AppleInternal is where Apple's internal stuff has lived on big-brother Mac OS X for years (you occasionally run into references to it as part of the Darwin build/maintenance scripts).
It raises two possibilities: either it's always been there, and they forgot to strip it out for the 1.1.1 release build, or they're gearing up iPhone application development and have just added it.
Nike+ support on iPhone? Sign me up! They should've had this ready on day one though; the severe lack of accessory compatibility is just weird.

Im not sure if you are aware of this little exploit we have found in the iPone 1.1.1. I have a non-activated iphone thats running 1.1.1, you can still access safari with out it being activated! Here are the instructions we have come up with:
Info from: Gricko666 & pilot1
On your non-activated 1.1.1 iPhone:
1. enter "*#307#" press call, now use the back button on the top of your screen to remove "*#307#", now enter "0" , press call, press answer, press hold, press decline. And you get to the contact list.
2. Push contacts, end call and you get called again, this time hit decline and you access one of menus with favorites, you can
edit contacts, do a test ride on keyboard, take photos etc.
3. Now edit a new contact and type in a web-address
4. When you tap the address safari opens but only displays an error saying that it cannot access the website, it also looks like safari freezes up.
5. Now press the home button, and for a split second the iPhone shows a screen where you can select wi-fi networks. Now you have to be really quick and select a network before the phone freezes.
6. Next you get Back to the "emergency call page" and every on screen button has frozen so the only thing you can do is turn off the phone.
7. Turn the iPhone off then on again
8. Now you can go back to the contact list by Dialing 0, push call, then answer, then contacts, then hit that web address you typed in.
19. And Voilla, you can now use your iPhone with safari....
I hope this helps!!

Number of posts aside, this is just not post-worthy. I would love for Nike+ to work on the iPhone, but this really is no indication of that. It amounts to a Page 2 rumor, and really should not be on TUAW.

But this is the ONLY place that people who are interested in putting 3rd party apps on their phone can go. The Dev wiki is not being updated because everyone that would/could update it with good information is currently working their asses of trying to get the jailbreak ready for mass use. Just about every other iPhone website that would normally have hacking information is just parroting what Erica is posting, check out iphonealley.com, iphoneatlas, hackint0sh.org, etc.
It's my guess that the obsessed individuals like myself that keep hitting refresh throughout the day is driving hits like a mutha. That can only be good for a blog y'all suppose to love.
Sam, the reason there are no Leopard posts this close to the release is that Apple has given no further information. In fact, I think this is a bit confusing to most people. Usually, Apple announces a release date a bit sooner than now.

We are not talking about modifying Windows or Unix. In essense, we are talking about modifying and hacking OS X, an Apple Operating System on an Apple Product.
Admittedly, coding tips seems a little far off the scope of the blog, but think of it this way. The iPhone (believe it or not) is still a fledgling product. An iPhone hacker chose here as a place to post news about it. I didn't realize TUAW was only a place for Apple authorized information. Let me know if thats what you think it is.
Secondly, there have only been a couple coding tip posts, not something I consider an epidemic.
Micah: hacked iPhone apps have as much to do with Apple as Windows and Unix. Why aren't we seeing 10 posts a day about modifying Windows and Unix operating systems? All Apple apps are written in some sort of programming language: why don't we see 10 posts a day about tips for writing things in Objective-C?
There is a double-standard going on.
Well done Erica. Thanks to your work I can enjoy my iPhone in South America! Apple would never even bother with us in the 3rd world.
Way to go! -Migs
