iPhone BSD package updated
iPhone developer NerveGas has updated his BSD subsystem in preparation for the new iPhone jailbreak. This new release offers tighter code fixes ("less cruft"), a few additions and a few omissions of less useful items. He also removed libarmfp dependencies. In other words, this release brings iPhone users closer to the standard BSD world.
Among other changes, NerveGas has rebuilt the kext tools, added reboot, mknod, a working chown and vmstat. Other new items include chflags, lsvfs, mkfifo (and friends), tee, renice, and cap_mkdb. You might notice one big missing item: minicom. NerveGas will be releasing minicom as a separate package. NerveGas has also updated ssh.

How do you install BSD base subsystem manually?
I have 1.5 on my iphone now and it's unstable, and I want to upgrade it to 2.0. I read on another forum that I didn't save saying you can update from 1.5 to 2.0 manually
Stupid question, perhaps ... but how do I install this updated BSD subsystem to upgrade from version 1.5?
November 03 2007 at 10:42 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHello everyone,
This is not easy to explain... to make it short, I am trying to virginize an iPhone that has no more modem firmware or Wi-Fi connexion since unlocking with anySIM 1.1. Since then, I restored and downgraded back to 1.0.2 but without being able to get back the Wi-Fi/phone features. And the modem firmware is still blank in General=>About.
I have placed the virginizer_pack in usr/bin/ (iPhone) and I am able to launch the virginator.sh script but, unfortunately, the BSD Subsystem is not installed and the script stops because it needs it.
And since Wi-Fi is out, I cannot use Installer to install BSD Subsystem automatically on the iPhone. I downloaded the "BSD Subsystem 1.5" folder but I don't know how to install its content manually.
So far, I've used iFuntastic to drag and drop files and folders from my Mac to the iPhone directory and it works fine. But can anyone tell what to do with all the files in the "BSD Subsystem 1.5" folder that I have ? Where should each be placed ?
I am not a computer engineer so, please, try and explain as if I was a kid !
Thanks for your help !

Yes it is possible to get your iPhone working. You need to downgrade to version 1.0.2 and then TurboSIM will work for you. TurboSIM doesnt change any baseband firmware so you'll have an iPhone running 1.0.2, with a 1.1.1 baseband.
@Justin #10. Dude, you almost made me black out from the awesomeness of that idea!

+1 on that... well im really itching for mount_afp... but id much rather have a full darwin mount suite for afp, nfs, smb and dav.... But hey i could get buy with just nfs.
i'm not suggesting to never talk about breaking iphones... but an up to the minute chronicle in excruciating tech detail on something that doesn't even work yet? this is an an efficient usage of tuaw resources?
why don't the "iphone dev team" make a blog and sadun post occasional summarizing updates of that? you know... when something happens that the average person actually cares about.
and no, i don't comment every post. i've commented on this and schramm's "OMG apple's deliberate bug won't give me 9 ringtones my life is ruined!" post... because they are *stupid fucking posts*.
if that's what tuaw is turning to, no i'm not going bother with yahoo nerdpipes. i'll just leave the vocal minority to masturbate in peace over cell phones and giganticorp's infernal abuse of users... and the heavenly 9th Ringtone.
@ Brian, I too have no interest in George Harrison so I didn't read that story either ;-)
Keep up the good work and the updates Erica.
Apple needs to hurry up and release another update, this is getting ridiculous.
