Access Safari on your unactivated 1.1.1 iPhone
TUAW reader fraggle tipped us to these instructions showing how to access Safari on your unactivated 1.1.1 iPhone. By unactivated, I'm talking about the phones that say "Connect to iTunes" and allow only emergency calls. The hack involves using the iPhone contact list to enter and access web site addresses.
This morning, a couple of intrepid iPhone users tested this out for me (thank you xorl and SmileyDude) and confirmed that the hack works. They were able to skip steps 6-8 on their bricked iPhones but you may need to do those steps if your 1.1.1 iPhone is new-in-box.

Cool. Not entirely useful, really, but kinda neat.
Of course, it's just another of those situations where Apple really appreciates being told what to lock down next. Seeing as how the utility of thsi trick is limited to the "Gee whiz" factor, its loss won't be the cause of much alarm or whining, I'm sure.
How's the work on the 1.1.1 to 1.02 virginizing/restoral tool coming along?

It could be useful... if you can access the site with an exploited tiff image to jailbreak it... you should then potentially be able to activate the iPhone without ever putting in an AT&T sim.

Am I right in thinking that if I had a completely new out-of-the-box v1.1.1 iPhone I would be able to use this exploit to unlock + jailbreak my unactivated iPhone without ever having to register with AT&T?
