Rumor: Apple using 1.1.2 internally
A blue-and-green birdy is tweeting in our ears, this time telling us that iPhones running 1.1.2 firmware have been spotted in the UK during Apple training sessions.
Is this good news or bad news for the hackers? Well, it's hard to tell but clearly if 1.1.2 is already in use, it hasn't been patched to handle the ongoing exploits that have been filling your RSS feeds the last few hours.
Thanks to "D".

I like these types of juicy scoops ;) Thanks Erica!
Maybe 1.1.2 is the full GSM unlocked firmware update? lol

1.1.2 will be released when Apple's Web App. page (http://apple.com/webapps) opens.

Is it me or is the iphone wayyyy behind the general phone that can text pics (SMS). I hate that it does not allow you to do that or text two or more people at a single time... I love texting but not the same message to individually over and over and over and over again...

All this means is the hackers need to get the firmware update process figured out so when 1.1.2 comes out and closes the TIFF exploit hole, we can apply the next firmware update while preventing it from wiping out 3rd party apps and keep an open hole to add more. Hope they have their stuff together and can figure this out soon.

No? Then you must have a third exploit. The TIFF vulnerability and the symlink from 1.0.2 method have been known for days, not hours.

My guess is they just push the beta stream out to employees and such for bug testing, because a thousand or so apple store reps would probably make for an easier time of finding out what's broken/fixed. It's like mozilla fans who use nightlies to help report/test bugs/bugfixes.

@daniel vargas: YES!
YES! it is way behind, and that is EXACTLY why there is 3rd party development.
because certain ppl right now are actually working on a solution to send MMS's with the iPhone.
but wait... *hears banging on the door from fanboys with torches in hand* NOO!! You can't hack the phone it's not your property!!!!
but seriously this is the exact reason why 3rd party development exists and why it should exist.

Screw the hackers. I don't have a problem if they want to hack into the phone or care why they wish to do it. I'm just bored to death of reading about it all the damn time when I check here for new content.

Also, who is to say that Apple didn't find the TIFF vulnerability before the hackers did?

Hopefully they fix the major flaw in Mail where moving an email from one folder to another causes it to disappear completely from the phone. The message leaves the originating folder and never makes it to the folder you choose to move it to

Can Erica tell us what the hackers had for breakfast this morning? We need to know!
*checks TUAW RSS feed to see if some spotty 16 year-old hacker has farted*

If I were Apple I'd never spread an upcoming firmware to a large crowd of employees. Sooner or later they'd leak it to the homebrew scene and hackers could start working on it earlier...

I heard about the Tiff exploit on Oct. 4th, that was almost a week ago. Now this exploit is some serious for Safari so I would guess Apple fixed it right away. Sony patched the fix within a couple of days. I am sure Apple will fix it soon.

The never-ending parade of people too stupid to just not read the articles that don't interest them and think that by bitching about it in the comments TUAW will actually stop posting stories that drive traffic to the site.
Almost funny, if it weren't so pathetic.

Re: DistortedLoop
Ur right it is pathetic.
I hope their whinning only drives more iPhone related stories. :)
I used to check TUAW about twice a day before they started keeping up with iPhone hacks.... now I visit about 10 times a day. This site provides the best in iPhone news by far.
Is it really that hard to skip over the stories that don't interest you.
This reminds me of the angry moms that want Howard Stern banned. If you don't like it.... skip it!

The comment from mingistech shows exactly why the hackers need to get their own site instead of hijacking this one.
This site used to be for everybody, now it's just for the hackers or whatever they call themselves. Why should regular and loyal readers have to dig through mountains of command line geekery to find the kind of posts that used to appear here as a matter of course?
TUAW, you could at least tell us if this is a pre-planned and permanent change in editorial direction, so we can all decide whether to stay or go. At the moment you're simply ignoring your readingship, which is just downright insulting.
Is there still an editor? Scott? Victor? C'mon guys, get a grip and let us know what's going on.

Erica,is there anyone who can confirm the difference between these to Modem Firmwares version 1.1.1? THIS IS THE POPULAR ANSWER:
04.02.04_G is an 1.1.1 original, direct from an Apple Shop.
04.01.13_G is an 1.1.1 update!
First Thing I did was to
1.)RESTORE IT TO 1.0.2 by downloading the v102 firmware
2.)connect to iTunes, ignored the prompt which says “update firmware”
3.)PRESS shift+click restore and select fw 1.0.2 to restore it.
so i how could i get this??–>04.01.13_G "is an 1.1.1 update!"
the iphone was out of the box and i never tried to unlock it before. I NEVER UPDATED. so im suppose to get this–-->>4.02.04_G is 1.1.1 "original, direct from an Apple Shop."
IM CONCERNED BECAUSE IT IS AN ISSUE THAT BY RESTORING TO 1.0.2 I GOT modem fw 04.01.13_G. (when i suppose to have 4.02.04_G)
or it is not an issue at all? as long as the hack is developed it will cover both perhaps??? ^-^

@Alex . . . no, the iPhone you bought IS yours to do with what every you want . . . just don't expect Apple to support your hacked iPhone, you are on your own (with what ever fleeting support your fellow hackers can muster).

@Daniel-
iPhone owner here. If you mainly use your phone for text/MMS, I wouldn't get an iPhone. It's fine for casual texting, but I really miss the ability to feel the buttons I text with. Texting under a desk in class is totally impossible with the iPhone.

Can't you guys just make a new site "The Unofficial iPhone Weblog". Cover the Apple stuff without all the hackery and paint jobs you can get for your iPhone. At the end of the day the iPhone is just a cell phone but Logic Studio is pure creativity.
