iToner 1.0.3 works with iPhone 1.1.1
The iToner saga continues. As you might recall, iToner (which allows you to create ringtones for your iPhone using any non-DRMed AAC or MP3 files) no longer worked with the iPhone 1.1.1 firmware. All seemed lost, but those crafty folks at Ambrosia figured out a way to get iToner working as a beta. The beta has now been released as a full fledged update.iToner 1.0.3 costs $15 and requires OS x 10.4.10 or higher and an iPhone.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

vycitymusic,
You do not have to pay another $15 for iToner 1.0.3. If you've purchased **any** version of iToner, all of the updates thus far, including the recently released 1.0.3 update are completely free.

Folks,
We know what's going wrong with some ringtones not playing, and we've fixed it. Expect a fix out very soon.

FYI - I was having the problem with ringtones transferring but not playing on the iPhone. The ringtones all had the .m4r extension. I changed the extensions to .m4a and they started working.

Seriously though. C'mon.
No. Really.
In all seriousness. Keep up the good work!
It doesn't seem very cost effective to pay $15 for a program if you are only going to make a few ringtones. You could buy your favorite songs that you already own and make them ringtones for under $2. If you want to make a ton of them, that's a different story, but for those who just want 3 or 4 different tones, I'd just buy them from iTunes, despite the lunacy of the whole thing.

We're actively looking into why some ringtones would play, and some not. We thought we had this issue nailed, but apparently not.

...because the more information we can gather, the more likely it is we'll be able to figure out the problem and solve it! :)

Had the same issues as everyone else, could get the files onto the phone but no sound from them. I duplicated the file, added both, tested both on the phone and they worked fine. Deleted the duplicate and it still works. I applaud Ambrosia for their work but to be honest this still feels very much like beta software.

That's so weird...I couldn't get just the one file to work so I duplicated it, renamed and then synced both files. Just one of the two work and if I remove the extra file the one that worked doesn't anymore. Weird...
Now that the kabuki over 3rd party apps is over, will Apple get reasonable on ringtones? Do I have to pay and pay to use my own recordings as ringtones on the iPhone?
