Micromat Syphone: iPhone SMS archiver

When we mentioned Mark/Space's upcoming Missing Sync for iPhone a while back, we noted that one of its signature features was SMS text message archiving from your iPhone onto your Mac. Well if you don't feel like waiting (or paying), Micromat has released a free utility Syphone that does exactly that. Syphone "lets you view, save, and back up your SMS messages" which comes in handy given the storage limits of the iPhone. The application itself installs only on your Mac and "does not alter the iPhone in any way."
Syphone is presently in beta and is a free download from Micromat.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Interesting that this is free and KeyCue in the previous post is $28. Personally I'd be more prepared to pay for this than a menu shortcuts app.

awesome chat image. i actually named my iphone "mr. watson" because when i first saw the iphone, i said, "i want you!". it also seemed a fitting name for a piece of technology that was going to change everything.

I absolutely cannot get this to download. Is anyone else having this issue?

@Hannah-
I've been having the same issue since the story was posted. Thought it was a Safari issue, so I tried Firefox and Camino as well. Even tried to connect via FTP in Firefox, the Finder, and Transmit. No other site (that I've found) seems to have the download available either. What gives?

I don't know about anyone else, but this program just shows an ad for tech tool pro then hangs... after about 30 minutes, I force quit, tried again, same thing. Dragged to trash, moving on...

@Thayne
We will hopefully have a new build of Syphone posted today or tomorrow that should fix the issue you're seeing. I will try to keep you guys posted as to when this happens. (The next version will have the Sparkle updating framework built-in, so subsequent updates will be much easier to get.)
@Hannah, Byran
If you're ever having trouble getting the file from our site (micromat.com), you can also grab it from VersionTracker.com or Macupdate.com. We keep both download sites updated to the latest version.

I've been using it since day 1, very good program, and seamless! There's an option to have the background daemon run and it'll auto-archive everything for you without opening the program! The developer has been very helpful on their forums too, this solves my 1000 message max issue with the iPhone :) Thanks micromat!
