Rumors: Nullriver to update iPhone Installer.app to 3.0
Shaun Erickson at psmxy.org has posted that Nullriver looks set to release the next major update of Installer.app. Installer.app is a program that runs on your iPhone or iPod touch and allows you to download software directly to your unit. He writes that version 3.0 should be released soon, perhaps as early as today. The updated features will include a redesigned interface, collapsed groupings (for less scrolling), new categories including "Recent" and local "More Info" pages--so you don't have to keep switching between Installer and Safari.Update: It's out. Click "Update" in Installer.app. It is, be aware, slow as molasses trying to get through along with the thousands of others doing the same. You must run Installer.app from /Applications--my first attempt using it from /Widgets linked to ~/Applications failed.

November 26 2007 at 12:53 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAll is great except when I sync with iTunes. If i have photos in my camera roll then it crashes - once i delete them all works fine again! Is there a fix so that I don't have to email them before i delete them?
thanks
I tried installing apptapp not knowing that if I selected firmware 1.0.1... (and I have 1.1.1) that it would totally FREEZE my phone. I have the itunes symbol with a connector symbol on my iphone and turning it one and off doesn't do anything! It won't even show up on my itunes - PLEASE HELP!

This is exactly my point. This user updated from within Installer on the iPhone, and then got struck with the "recommended for 1.1.1" statement. Now he's up the creek without Nullriver helping him out.
Thanks nullriver for creating this monster.
The advice seems to be. Don't upgrade (update)! Hey, haven't we been there before?!?
Hi, I upgraded to latest version of Nullriver installer. My phone is 1.0.2 version. After I installed, the installer icon is disappeared. I don't know how to get back the icon. I tried to load the installer but couldn't. Please advise if any one knows how to get back the icon or how to uninstaller installer. Thanks Vijay
October 23 2007 at 9:57 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNullriver seems to have created a lot of confusion amongst iPhone users who want to run 3rd party apps on their phones.
When the app is installed it says, that it is recommended for the firmware 1.1.1 of the iPhone. Yet on their website at http://iphone.nullriver.com:16080/beta/ it says very clearly:
"This does not work with iPod Touch or iPhone firmware 1.1.1 at this time. However you can downgrade an iPhone by following the instructions here
Mac OS X Downloads (for firmware 1.0, 1.0.1 and 1.0.2):"
So, now the question is, which of the two statements is the correct one. What are we to do/understand without being confused by their conflicting statements.
I would very much appreciate a response, or in the very least a statement on their web site addressing this issue. I have emailed them several times, and have not received an answer.
Unfortunately, even though they seem to have created a fairly decent piece of software for the iPhone, this haphazard and less than professional approach is the best argument for Apple to only allow 3rd party apps on their terms.
I can wait till February and not have to deal with amateur developers
I updated my install app & the next day I went in, it just kicks me out of the program. What should I do? How come I can't get in to the install app now?
October 23 2007 at 11:57 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'm currently running 1.0.1
I, like a lot of folks, wanna make the leap to 1.1.1 but don't wanna loose apps.
Where's the instructions for us??????
How do I go about getting the new apptap and installer.app if I am on 1.1.1 and never had Installer.app when I was on 1.0.2?
