Google Docs optimized for viewing on the iPhone
Over at the official Google Docs blog they've announced a a revision of the Google Docs interface designed more mobile devices, in particular the iPhone. You can now get "mobile-optimized versions of your docs, spreadsheets, and even presentations (for iPhone only for now)" by pointing your mobile browser at http://docs.google.com/m .Unfortunately, the revision is still read-only, allowing you to view your documents, but not to edit them. Hopefully, Google will figure out a way to bring editing to the iPhone before February. In any case, this could still come in handy if you're a regular Google Docs user on the go.

Now we just need them to update the way they display Docs in Safari 3....*sigh*...and Gmail.

It would be nice if google notebook was fully supported in Safari. That's the only app of theirs I use, and it's just about the only thing I use Firefox for.

Would be better if they made it 144px wide so it could be used in FireFox and IE side panels. It still looks OK. Bookmark it, change the properties to open in side panel.

Works great on the touch!
If only we had editing...
With a £3.99 p/m subscription to The Cloud, plus the ability to edit Google Docs, that would turn the touch into a great PDA....

Of course it will work with iTouch. It has simillar Safari with the hi-tech sibling iPhone.
Probably Google will not add editing feature, they probably making a real codes with iPhone SDK. Google is BFF of Apple.

@7: The iTouch and iPhone Safari are pretty much the same, but do contain a small piece of code to differentiate them, so a few sites are iPhone-only, while sites like Facebook just look for mobile Safari.
In general: Google Calendar, and others now works on the iTouch. Yay!

The Doc section works fine on a WM5 device, specfically a Samsung SCH-i730. Spreadsheets will download as a an .xls. The presentations have no option for viewing.
I personally think this is the prelude to the gPhone or gPhone OS. Get this out first and then release the new product.

What kind of bugs me: Apple is promoting iPhone/iTouch's web browser because it browses the normal web, the same web on your computer.
So why is it, when I go to Google.com on my iTouch, it goes to google.com/m
Even clicking "Classic" view at the bottom takes me right back to the mobile page.
This seems to be against Apple's idea of the "normal" internet.
(If you want to witness this, download iPhoney, and choose iPhone user agent.)
