Instant iPhone jailbreak site offers many new features
Sure, firmware release 1.1.2 is just around the corner -- expected to launch along with the European iPhone in just a few days -- but that hasn't stopped the guys at jailbreakme.com from updating their software and enhancing your jailbreaking experience. New features include better YouTube compatibility, a progress indicator (so you don't have to sit around and try to guess whether it is working or not), AFC2 service support, and (best of all in my opinion) automatic installation of the libarmfp library. This last bit means that your apps won't open and immediately close after launching. This also means that you don't need to do a separate BSD subsystem installation as a work-around. You probably will want to add BSD anyway--it's a great system enhancement--but you no longer have to for your apps to run right. Please note that you can't use AppSnapp via a HTTP/SOCKS proxy. You won't get the "Install AppSnapp" button on the page if you do. And if you've already jailbroken and need the AFC/libarmfp features? For now, you'll either have to do a complete restore/re-jailbreak or manually follow my afc2 tutorial.
I asked an AppSnapp team member about the TIFF exploit getting closed by Apple in the 1.1.2 update. He replied that the team has built the new version of AppSnapp so that "once we find another way in, the resulting payload will work with no changes." Good news for anyone who wants a great way to customize their system with minimal headaches! He also expressed hope "that Apple will stop this cat and mouse game and do the right thing come February." TUAW concurs.

So fixing a security hold in a web browser is now a "cat and mouse game"? Would you rather them leave Safari like a piece of swiss cheese?

...but I thought Safari was bulletproof...
anyways, cat and mouse game refers to Apple sacrificing their resources towards locking up a device that has a lot more potential given an SDK.

What does the "truly one touch even for those with unactivated phones" mean?

Most swiss cheeses don't have holes.

Am I the only one who has a problem with Safari being unstable after the TIFF patch being applied by jailbreakme.com?

Erica,
When you say the "libarmfp" library installation "means that your apps won't open and immediately close after launching," what do you mean exactly?
Ever since my upgrade to 1.1.1 via AppSnapp from a jailbroken AT&T 1.0.2 phone, I've been having a lot strange problems with both Apple and third-party apps quiting upon launching. For example, I get a text message, hit the "view" button, then wait a few seconds while the phone gets stuck loading the SMS app, and eventually quits to the home screen. I'll try two or three more times and similar quiting occurs, until the phone eventually gets locked out- implying a springboard restart.
In short, does this "libarmfp" library seem to be the culprit or am I suffering from a faulty firmware upgrade and need to restore?

Can we simply re-run AppSnapp from the site if we have done so with the previous version?

I'm wondering the same thing: how do I upgrade if I've already installed this version -- just try to re-install over the existing one?

dan and JRob,
Read Erica's ENTIRE article:
"if you've already jailbroken and need the AFC/libarmfp features? For now, you'll either have to do a complete restore/re-jailbreak or manually follow my afc2 tutorial."
The tutorial to the get the AFC/libarmfp features can be found at:

Steve Jobs has already said he would like a real SDK to be released, and I can guarantee it will be released at Macworld 2008 or sooner.

@flux:
You might be running out of "disk" space on the system partition. try running "df" from a terminal and see what your free disk space is.
Last weekend my phone got so full everything was dying... I had to restore it.
---
also recently I've noticed my phone has a memory leak or something (I need to troubleshoot this at home, where I can use ssh). My phone starts acting up (lots of things crash) after about 4 - 6 hours of use. Rebooting the phone fixes the problem.
Hope that helps. I hope I can find that "bad app", and it's not something I really want to use, like summerboard, etc.

After applying the jailbreakme.com patch, my iPhone became totally unstable.
I had to restore it and I will no longer attempt to put apps on until Apple starts selling them through iTunes.

YT fix:
Mac here: http://www.hacktheiphone.com/111/iphone_fix_youtube_mac.html
PC here: http://www.hacktheiphone.com/111/iphone_fix_youtube_windows.html
if you can't access your phone via fugu, you will have to install (via installer) the repository source from i.unlock.no which contain a YT fix package
and finally, you can do a full restore and re jailbreak...they have updated their software which now include the YT fix.

Wow.... you have made it clear that your basic comprehension skills are lacking at best. Let me explain it more clearly for you. The AppSnapp team member meant that he hopes that Apple will pull their collective heads from their asses and provide a "safe/secure" method for the end user to customize their device to their individual needs. Hopefully that is clear enough for you Chris.

hello.
I have a question.
I bought my iphone yesterday, it was shipped today, and hopefuly it'll arrive next monday.
I've been wondering: 'will it have 1.1.2 firmware?'
and in case it has... I've read that it shouldn't be a big problem.
Am I right? Should I be terribly scared??
I'll be waiting for your answer. TNX

Is there a way to return the iPod Touch back to its "virgin" state after using this instant Jailbreak?
Oh, and it's not a problem for this previous post; you can just downgrade to a previous version, and I think that Jailbreakme works for 1.1.2 anyway.
