1.1.2 Jailbreak updated to include activation, PPC support
The latest release of the 1.1.2 jailbreak now includes activation (the bit that allows you to use the phone without the connect-to-iTunes screen even if you don't have an AT&T account), YouTube support, PowerPC support and, best of all, a statically compiled readline -- so you don't need that libreadline library installed as a separate piece. You can read more about the jailbreak and download the zip file from its Conceited Software page.

Erica, I love your work on iPhone but I wish someone would compile it in a way that describes how to go from one version to another. I have an unlocked US iPhone running 1.0.2 and I would like to upgrade to a new version but I am really confused as to how I would go about this without risking bricking the device or losing calling functionality.
Is it actually possible to be on 1.1.2 with unlocked phone capability yet?

Neil: I would follow the instructions listed in the readme.txt file for "downgrading" your 1.1.2 phone, but use step one to upgrade it to 1.1.1 instead. When you're in 1.1.1, you can do the steps needed to prepare your phone before upgrading to 1.1.2.

Neil: I am in the same situation as you and I haven't decided yet if I am going to upgrade. I assume I can only go as far as 1.1.1 right now. This site I ran into is pretty nice: you select your current firmware, baseband version and tell the site whether you've unlocked before or not and it tells you what to do: http://www.unlockthatiphone.com/process.php
I haven't used that method and I guarantee nothing, but the directions are well written and it is probably the way I will/would go if I decide to upgrade... The site (with which I am in no way affiliated) inspires confidence.

I have a question regarding this picture on Apple's iPhone website.

How can I have my phone do that? The picture I assign to a contact comes up as a wallpaper, not on top like that.

This is great to hear! Won't be long before 1.1.2 is unlocked and we've got AnySim up and ready to go!

Perhaps a silly one from me, but will this work on Virgin UK 1.1.2 iPhone that have not been activated?

Is there any advantage to this new jailbreak vs. the old one? In other words...for people who are already jb'd, is it worthwhile and/or possible to "upgrade" to the updated version?

I used this on my phone unlocked with the SimFree unlock and it worked perfectly. I was already on 1.1.1 so all i did was install the OKtoPrep via apptap and then updated with itunes. Then ran the java app and all was good.
Probably the simplest update yet!

I tried this originally the first nite, and it tanked, and I'm stuck on a clean 1.1.2 now....is there any word on when that will be fully broken to not require oktoprep????

I just upgraded with this metod from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 and it unlocked just fine.
Didn't want to have the installer.app ... but, heck, it's now activated.
Can confirm that it works for a "TurboSim" phone. Baseband was never touched.
Installer.app is great. But couldn't someone please port a WAP browser, pleeeease ... I'm gonna "donate" big time ... because through WAP it's my only possibility to get an internet flat here ...
Bye!

Does anyone have or know where to find the 1.1.1 ipod touch firmware? I have a 1.1.2 touch, and I cant downgrade to get this working.
Many thanks in advance.

Paulo: To get you call ID to just have a little tag like that, you have to assign the picture to the person using Apple's Address Book. First, delete their picture from their contact on the iPhone. Then, when back on your comp, just drag the picture to the icon space above the person's name in Address Book, and after you sync, whenever a person calls, it'll look like that. I'm not sure how you'd do it in Windows.
I'd love to know if the 1.1.1 version of Installer.app works with a jailbroken 1.1.2...

How do I run jailbreak.jar? I've followed the steps in the Readme up until where I have to "double click jailbreak.jar", but when I double click, nothing happens. Help?

Same here as 9. Lauren and 16. Bryan.
Then tried the previous version (./osx) and got a "couldn't connect to iphone" error.
Might try downgrading to 1.1.1 next...

Updated to 1.1.2 successfully in under 15 mins without any problems from an ipsf 1.1.1 unlocked iphone. Using on rogers in Canada. Easy peasy! Thanks!

Johnny - i'm also on Rogers. I updated from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 and the phone itself is fine, however it's not recognizing my SIM card. What did you do? Did yours recognize the sim right away?
