Make My Day: Choose-Your-Adventure for iPhone
What is Make My Day? It's a free interactive video choose-your-adventure for iPhone. If that sounds like an awfully complex way to describe a game, well, it's hard to describe it any other way. Make My Day offers a story where you make decisions at critical points. The program works by contacting a central media server and playing segments of your story. Your choices drive which video segments you watch.
You start off the game by waking up. Soon, the program prompts you whether to answer a phone or to open a door. From there the branch points just get more and more bizarre. It's a delightful game put together by a cadre of college buddies and offers far more entertainment than a free program ought. Your choices range from hilariously unforeseen to seriously amusing. Case in point: the bits about being struck by lightning and the "dance off" with your mugger.
Download your copy via Installer.app. The iPhone adaptation was put together by Nate True, the same guy who brought you the fabulous "Tap Tap Revolution" and who engineered the special effects for the project. He was responsible for the "lightsaber" bit. When you see it, you'll know what I mean. Make My Day is actually the first iPhone app I know of to employ live streaming video.
If you find yourself replaying parts over and over and want to own a copy, you can buy a DVD version from the Make My Day website for $16.

sounds alot like the mid-90's horror games style of Phantasmagoria and such. Glad to see they are in someway making a comeback, as I always loved those :) I may have to pick up the DVD since I don't have an iPhone.

It seems to me that this sort of thing would lend itself to being produced in such a way that I DON'T have to hack my iPhone. I mean, what's the point of making it into an app when it could just as well be run in Safari?
This is hacking for the sake of hacking, truly.

If you want a choose-your-own-adventure style iPhone game, without the video or the hacking, head over to www.fray.ca/iphone. It's seriously hilarious!

umm... You're forgetting You-Tube??
@Able-X: heh I was cleaning out a bunch of stuff, and just found an old Phantasmagoria game. I might have to play it again.
@Gene: To my knowledge, you can't easily stream video from Javascript. If the phone supported flash, or java, then yes it could be run over the web without hacking. Without either you can't run the video. I suppose you could post You-Tube links, but then the user would have to go back to safari.

Yeah, I kinda thought the same thing too..."Why isn't this a web app, since that's how the iPhone works?"
I guess I'll be thinking that more and more once the real SDK is out and everyone starts trying to cash in on iPhone apps instead of making them web-based anymore...

Anyone playing old school "choose you own adventure" type games on their iPhone has way too much time on their hands. Anyways Apple does not like any 3rd party apps and this idea will be shut down pretty quick.

Too funny, in a naive chicken little kinda way.

Hmm. I can stream videos just fine on the iPhone. In fact, Apple encourages this with their new export option in Quicktime. Videos stream on Apple's website using Javascript, etc. with no problem. But yes, the iPhone switches to a Quicktime player to play the video, it doesn't appear in Safari. Neither does any media, audio or video.

iPod Touch - Mine is at 1.1.1 and broken with the iPhone apps in it plus Installer.
What would happen if I use the Apple Updater 1.1.2 on it?
Will I lose the iPhone apps?
